Case !!!
Ok, i have a difficulty getting one site (http://www.eurec.nl) better ranked on the word campers in Google.nl, why is alouettecampers.nl on top. It has no high pr, not very much incoming links (less then eurec). Why is it doing so extremely well and why is Eurec only on place 36 or something? It can't be only cause they got the word campers in their domain, sure it helps.
Check
http://www.google.nl/search?hl=n…- alouettecampers is on the second page for meDancer
- probably local results are being shown there!trooperbill
- Infact: http://www.innov8gd.… came up on top when I Googled Graphic Design Wokingham, and she doesn't even live there..Dancer
- dancer what nr is http://www.eurec.nl on that google query?cls
- your all seeing local interpretations of the results lol its different depending where you livetrooperbill
- Dancer0
^ on that note. Do you get better page ranking if you have a number of descriptive domains pointing to your website?
- trooperbill0
@dancer if the domains are on topic... yes!
@cls - ill check but without looking i'd guess the sits is built with good structure and is on-topic... ill look later tonight and get back to you.
- so this dude would rank high:
http://www.freelance…Dancer - oh you mean domain names... they're a factor sure but not a massive one - can work with ibl's tho!trooperbill
- What's an IBL?Dancer
- in bound linktrooperbill
- my guess domain names is a bigger factor when the keyword is less competitive or a nichecls
- @trooperbill, cheers any help would be much appreciatedcls
- cls not really, it helps with link development for sure!trooperbill
- @trooperbill, you sure top 10 in query above all has campers in their domaincls
- so this dude would rank high:

off topic trooperbill, your site http://www.neue.co.uk/ reads 'neue (Dutch for new)', but that aint Dutch that's German, in Dutch it would be nieuwe.
- trooperbill0
really? i guess i better change it then... i did a search and it said it was dutch somewhere (honest) guess it goes to show you cant believe everything you read on the interwebs lol

Any more Q's ?

I've got another, but I'm not sure it's SEO.
What's (in your opinion) a respectable homepage bounce rate?
- I think it depends entirely on the type of site. Below 50% is probably a starting point to work from.jamble
- based on my stats, for an average joe corporate site around 40% is usual.trooperbill
- nocomply0
Yes! I got another one.
What's the deal with linking to your current page?
For example, if in the footer of your homepage you have a link that has a few keywords which links to your homepage? Granted, this footer is the same throughout the site, so this same problem will appear on about.html, contact.html, etc....
- linearch0
dealing with space breaks, which is better in url addresses "_" or "-"
- trooperbill0
@linearch both are regarded as spaces by Google however for usability i'd suggest hyphens as they only require 1 key push
- trooperbill0
@nocomply remember Google only follows the first links to a page on your site (some times the second to but its less frequent) so if you have a link back to your home page higher up in the code i.e. an keyword rich alt text behind your logo, then any other link anchor doesnt really matter that much!

Why do people keep trying to sell me SEO when my page is #1 and that is how they found out about me?
- fusionpixel0
Why is your site description: "dconstrukt of Insider Internet Dating ask : we've got a site that was ranked pretty high for many of its keywords, all of a sudden the site seems to have dropped out of search.when you type in site:(url) the site shows up.but not in search.whats the..."
It makes no sense.
- fusionpixel0
Why Are you using the following permanent link on your site: template_permalink.asp?id=35. Is that for better SEO in case I am in the look out for id=35?
- nah i just dont have url rewriting on my windows shared hosttrooperbill
- trooperbill0
@fusionpixel... anything else u care to know lol

Hi Bill, good advice your giving and glad you are swerving the Hocus Pocus route - and if you are getting a bit of pr orwhatever good luck to you.
... Just curious (and not trying to catch you out or would of asked sooner).. is the windows server the reason you are using both www. & non www versions of your domain name?
I'm sure you know the problem it can cause and the easy solution in .htaccess ...or do you consider it an issue?
- Shaney0
apache .htaccess i mean of course
