    I guess I am not so much intrigued by the stabby stabby ending as I am the first few minutes, in which Jacob and his rival are sitting on the beach. That little back and forth between them is perplexing.
    "Still trying to prove me wrong?"
    "You are wrong."
    "They come, they fight, they corrupt. Always ends the same way."
    "It only ends once. Whatever happens before that...is just progress."

    I wonder if this all boils down to an argument over destiny vs. free will. Would explain Jacob's emphasis on "choice" later on.
