Nobody will take you seriously as a company.

Every dollar a company spends on a Microsoft product
results in an additional $8 of IT expenses.

Request competent IT people that know how to work with both PC and Mac. The way things are right now, I bet there are many IT specialists that do both platforms without any issues. It's faster, simple and won't affect budgets, productivity, etc.

chain yourself to the mac... 60s style
- I did see some fluffy handcuffs in a pound shop the other day...TruffleShuffler

this pc vs mac shit is sicking. like a mac makes you do any better lolcats. take the stick outta your ass and use the tools they give you.
- It's easier to work on a Mac than a PC for this kind of stuff.monospaced
- often times the easier way isn't the best wayplash

Instead of a simple stick, ask JackRyan for some popsicles...he is raving about them!

i don't understand people that say they can only design on one platform and not another. it's just fucking ridiculous.

They're support, you're production, it seems absurd to prioritize them over you.
Unless it is a state agency. They don't care about the money, it's nobody's. The IT guy got there because he's somebody brother in law.
Then no matter how far-fetched this sounds, the person sealing the purchase gets a nice cut from the PC supplier anyway :)You're screwed either way.

pc's aren't actually all that bad. you just gotta learn how.. like going from quark to indesign. Just make sure you have powerful machines with vista otherwise making shortcuts etc is a bitch

I would completely avoid the Mac is better than PC for what you do argument and go straight for the logistical nightmare of switching over. Make your argument be about efficiency in getting a different system up and running and THAT cost vs. the cost of some other printers for the Mac as someone suggested above.
Just as you wouldn't tell the IT Department how to set up networks and firewalls, they shouldn't be in a position to dictate how a CREATIVE department can best accomplish their work.

In this day and age if you can't use both you are a liability.
- not truemonospaced
- is the interface in photoshop, illustrator or indesign different depending on platform? Nope.DrBombay
- You are a primadonna.DrBombay
- It is different. I have both in front of me, and I'll tell you, the Mac interface is simply much nicer.monospaced
- Is nicer a quantifiable value?DrBombay
- yesmonospaced
- no it is a preference.DrBombay
- Most often when I hear "wah wah I can't use a PC," I immediately think "learned design in college."********

With the advent of Opentype fonts, platforms aren't as important anymore.

Another thing is you Mac fanboys always talk about viruses on the PC, and you don't know how to use a PC. SO what would you know about virsuses on the PC? I haven't had a virus in 7 years.

"I haven't had a virus in 7 years."
People who say things like this are usually part of a botnet, just too stupid to realise it.

this thread is doomed to become another holy war bitching

Just tell people you 'prefer' to work on Mac. Not that you 'can't' work on PC. It's bullshit.

"Help! IT want to make us use PCs! And we need to make a case to continue using Macs. We're graphic designers specialising in print. Anyone got any good ammo that would help us?"
Stop acting like a little girl and just do your fucking job!
You sound like a wee pompous prick!

Here are some:
If you're on current hardware and software, the cost outlay doesn't justify the change... a new printer that everyone could use would likely be cheaper than switching to PCs.
Office 2008 for Mac pretty much removed all functional differences between interfaces on a company IT level. I mean, what do you need to do? Connect to an exchange server (unless you're running sendmail or something), use the office suite to write up briefs etc, Macs can connect to any Windows shares via Samba, printer compatibility should be good with Leopard, and if not, the support section of the manufacturer's website should tell this 'tech' how to connect your Macs to the bloody printer anyway. VPNs work just as well, they're stable, less prone to infection, don't require additional licensing for anti-virus, have better backup than standard NTBackup, work with Active Directory, etc etc etc.
Apple have done a great job of making their gear more compatible with Microsoft's protocols, without sacrificing the main reason why people Macs.... performance, interface design.
Oh, and they're the best looking machine on the market.

tell them that's what you know how to use and that it is the preferred weapon of choice for professional designers.
