it is a constant source of comedy when you have TBO, Greedo, Flav and Point5 up in your mix.

for business?

I see a lot of supposed "e-marketing professionals" thinking they are saving the world with Twitter, but I haven't seen anything earth shattering yet. Keeping your name in people's thoughts never hurt anyone's business though.

You can follow things that interest you and have it all pop up in one place, it works with rss. You could, for example, publish a feed with all twitter content about a particular topic. Kindas like what skittles did but about something more meaningful to professionals.

I am going to Tokyo next week, so I follow a lot of expat westerners living in Japan on Twitter. Can't even begin to tell you all of the valuable information I have gleaned from it. Guys who have thousands of followers sent me direct messages to answer questions I had for them.
People say "who wants to know what I had for breakfast?" and garbage like that but it has much more value than that.

pvn has much discussed the last week...

I was going to post something similar but then I found a lot of blogs about this vs. Facebook. I was at SXSW last weekend and every single fucker in there was Twittering, Tweetdecking, fucking all that shit.
I'm too lazy for that. I can't even handle Facebook, it's too much work.

my company wants to start its own twitter... im trying to figure out what it's benefits are myself.
i just fail to see...

I enjoy my twittering. It's just a way I can take a verbal snapshot of a particular day. Makes things and events easier to remember...

so twitter is a pretty useless thing for companies?
- depends. I know a local coffee joint that uses it quite well to inform of specials, etc.TheBlueOne
- news agencies have been using it pretty effectively.DrBombay

I hated Facebook. I tried it for like two weeks and I was all like "Who are you people? Why are you throwing snowballs at me or sending me kittens?? And that fat dude I worked with in 1992 just said "what's up?"...And...ah fuck my evil ex-girlfriend just friended me to tell me I'm still an asshole to her...fuck this place..."
Twitter is just far more chill...
