parents/grandparents and congressmen are also talking on the telephone, sending emails, eating pizza, engaging in sexual acts and passing gas... none of that has gone away

To all those who don't get it -
The appeal is exactly the same as QBN. Just a chance to post interesting links, stupid stuff, and network and meet people.

The key thing with Twitter though is that it completely dispenses with all the parts of a website you thought you needed but didn't. Instead of clicking around 500 threads on 20 different forums, it just flattens everything into one long stream of comments. So now you are on the same "level" as Britney Spears, Al Gore and Kevin Rose, even if they would never respond to your tweets in a million years.

Twitter is like having your blog sandwich pre-chewed before you attempt to eat it, and having the resulting slurry tipped into you via a tube.

It really is not the same thing, Bombay. It's actually completely different.
That's a truly absurd conclusion.

what's a twitter?

I'm not being difficult. By all means compare twitter to a blog, but comparing it to a focused forum is absurd.
It's not the same thing at all.

I see Twitter as the inevitable evolution of things. Ten years ago, everything on the web was a lot slower and less streamlined, your typical design portfolio was a 800k Flash site with a 2 minute intro, now its a single scrolling page with a set of images.
Twitter allows you to communicate without using the browser at all, you can just text people. But actually it can be used in a huge number of ways, it is really just a technology platform. I think that is the direction things will move in, after all the browser interface is just a crutch we built because we don't have the technology to communicate more directly.
- Also if Llyod was on Twitter you could easily ignore him...do I need to go onukit

A potential client found me on Twitter, and I didn't even have an account. So, I finally broke down and joined, but only for the sake of my business. If anyone wants to have a friendly chat with me, they can find my phone number on my website.
For personal updates, I think it's even more narcissistic than Facebook. For business, I guess it's kind of a "when in Rome" thing.

It's a social crutch for isolated people who are not comfortable enough to even be with their own meaningless thoughts that they have to cry out to the world to justify their sorry existence.
Lets face it if you had anything better to do or say you wouldn't even be opening up your Twitter client.
