Giving Up Coffee

I'm on day 5 of no coffee and no caffeine and have to say I'm feeling much better than the other time I tried this.
I've switched my 3-4 cups of coffee in the morning for a high potency multivitamin twice a day, wheat grass pills, and just a generally better diet - smoothie in the morning, herbal tea throughout the day.
It's at work that I can tell the biggest difference - I feel like I'm a little more mentally aware and sharp without coffee. I still wake up tired but can really tell when the multivitamin has kicked in, or when a giant glass of V8 is doing it's thing.
I may try some decaf at some point, I love coffee but really wanted to see if it's true what people say - that after they give it up they just generally feel better and more refreshed.
Anyone else ever been successful with giving it up?

I am on day 5 of drinking coffee again and I feel much healthier now. I switched from no coffee to 2-3 cups of coffee a day. New years resolution.

Just say no to giving up coffee...
It's like one of the essential food groups, and stops cancer and helps world peace... What will you give up next, music?

Make sure that giant class of V8 you're drinking is the low sodium kind.

Did you get headaches from lack of caffeine? Heard this happens to most who quit.

harlequino,
I guess I was just realizing that I never have any energy, I don't get enough sleep, and I'm generally a pretty anxious and slightly stressed person. In reading about people giving up coffee, these were things that they said the experienced with coffee, and they went away somewhat after giving it up.
My problem is that I just never seem to have any natural energy. I'm always dependent on getting up and getting a cup of coffee to get me going. Then later in the day after that's worn off I'm usually exhausted.
My next big thing to do is get a gym membership and start exercising. I know that's supposed to really boost the body's natural energy levels and, who knows, after I find a good balance of that maybe I'll go back to 1 - 2 cups here and there. Maybe the twice a day multivitamin will keep me feeling better in the afternoon with coffee.
- the answer is even more coffeeribit
- I think I just need to exercise and take some iron pills or something in order to feel more energetic.Jaline
- Sounds like a plan, mang.
Getting back into the exercise thing too, harlequino - yes...exercise...Jaline
- Exercise is good.. I've just started with a personal trainer.. She says coffee is good too!ribit

It will be tough to keep it up. Coffee is one of those things like Scotch for me, where with good coffee I can say, "damn, that's a great cup of coffee."

Dear Mg33,
We received your letter where you express your excitement about giving up coffee, we assure you that you will continue feeling better as the days go by, also as you mentioned in your letter you are planning to join a gym, before you spend hundreds or thousands of dollars on a Gym membership we strongly encourage you start doing some light exercising such as walking. Remember that the gym staff is there to sell memberships and all they want your money. You are correct by noting that exercise will in fact boost your energy levels but do not expect this to happen overnight, specially if you have lived a sedentary life for the past several years.
much needed love...

I quit coffee for a couple of months last year (not a new years resolution though). It worked well for me, but it would be an overstatement to say that it improved my awareness, energy levels etc. It just felt normal, and maybe a little more leveled out.
If you expect some kind of miracle, you'll probably be disappointed, unless you used to drink LOTS of caffeine.
Better diet and exercise will however work miracles - boost energy, concentration and general mood. At least that's my experience.
- I'm back on dope now, 2-3 cups a day.doctor
