I know there has already been plenty of threads/debates about the new Pepsi rebranding, but I just saw this and wanted to share:

When I first saw the rebranded elements I didn't like it, but thought that it might work well once I saw actual branded products. Having seen it now in the stores, I'm fully convinced this is one of the most disastrous rebranding efforts of a major brand I have ever seen.
And don't even get me started on the Sierra Mist...

Pepsi is a case study in what not to do in branding.

Pepsi's new identity will never grow on me, it is remindful of cheap beach ball made in China.

..you don't see pepsi asking for a bailout tho..
- there is still time...NONEIS
- not yet anyway, their sales are down 18% in 2008. Coke is up 4% in 2008.3point14159

Horrid branding. Sux because I like the taste better then Coke but I can't bring myself support this design.

Why in the world would an icon brand like Pepsi redue their identity in the first place? If Pepsi and it's brand managers have to explain that it is a smiling face then the identity has failed on all levels. Your average person from around the world will just think that the new logo is a printing mistake.
- It's sad really.
The bottles/cans look SO cheap and miserably trying to be 'trendy'.NotByHand

I have tried to let it grow on me, but I hate it. The 'smiling' face is a weak concept for a strong brand and I dislike how the red is now over powering the blue, where before is was balanced. I am sure they will have to use a lot of motion graphics to help communicate the smile concept to users.

Its way better than what they used to have. can design is nice too. clever that they adjust the logo based on the number of calories (Max vs. 0 vs. Regular)
- no, it's not clever. it's a cheap gimmicky concept not suitable for a GIANT brandiCanHazQBN
- janne760
well we'll see if it works in a while.. see if they sold more cans.
it's hard to predict how a rebrand will have effect.
all i know is those cats do plenty of market research, whether you 'like' the shape or not..

that site is horrible... my god!

the site and video actually make me like it a bit lol

Soda is so bad. I'd like a soda with less sugar. Jus my 2 cents. I mean they are promoting something which is so unhealthy.

Well, they can wrap the product in whatever they like, but it is the same contents, and you either like it or you don't. A new logo or can won't change your tastes.

realy enjoy the simple and minimal design. Blocky, even.

looking forward to see what their new vendor is putting out in interactive. was a big pitch

I don't mind it...maybe because I never felt an attachment to the old one.

It's not a true rebrand, more like a new campaign. And it aint so bad to me, in fact I quite like it (I had nothing to do with it).
