I wish they would stop the bail outs and focus that money on the people who would be hurt by the closures directly.
The US economy has become an old gnarled tree. It needs the large, dead limbs trimmed off from time to time so that new growth can fill out and take it's place. That's when innovation happens and economies grow, diversify and fill modern requirement. Sure the tree will be in shock in the short term, but then if will flourish better than ever.

Also 'going green' has become more than a fad, and companies who can capitalize will be future leaders. If companies can create innovate products that both help the environment and save money, they have the potential to do very well. Many experts feel that the US needs to become a leader in green tech that they can share and sell to the world to help create a new, strong economy.

People stop giving a shit about the environment when they cant feed themselves. IMHO going green only matters to individuals when they are doing well.

Not really, actually if we could move to another source of energy it would solve many of our problems. Environment, terrorism, Russia/ China etc. Too bad they put off doing something for so long.

i'm shit at what i do but i doubled my monthly salary since the end of 2008. guess i'm one of the lucky ones.

The small studio I work for is finally feeling the crunch.
All staff had to take a 20% pay reduction started next pay period.
This is mainly happening due to clients unfulfilled payment obligations or asking for extensions or non-lump payment options.
Suck.

As a very very very small studio, I am finding a number of larger clients are cancelling projects and paying me off for what I've done so far. Its definitely got a lot quieter on the illustration front BUT... that has forced me to think laterally, be flexible and to accept that I need to take on design work to fill in the potholes in the schedule. I am finding there are companies out there who want to put work my way and I think survival is largely going to be a case of forgetting what you think you are about and providing a service that suits those who want it.
