Ah here it is:
"The failed vote was no surprise. Republicans have been vowing for months to oppose Cordray's confirmation -- or any nominee's confirmation -- until key changes are made at the agency. Among their demands: eliminating the director's position, creating an oversight board instead, and requiring the agency to get congressional approval of its budget versus permitting it to draw funds from the Federal Reserve."
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/20…The budget thing seems like the only legit reason. But all those reasons could be seen as just ways to prevent the agency's work completely. No leader, decisions by committee and having to wait on a budget (and/or be limited by it) all result in slow or no progress.
Once again, there is no black and white in this situation, just a bunch of children throwing fits because they're not getting their way

Here's the thing...Republicans should approve his nominees in the first place, unless there is some valid reason not to. In this case, they openly said it was not because they opposed Cordray, but because they were opposed to the idea of a Consumer Protection Agency in the first place.
So if you are looking for who is "at fault" here I would point to Congress first. The original power grab here was them blocking the entire Consumer Agency from starting (which had already been passed into law) through a technicality.

i think the budget thing COULD be a legit reason. i mean, we don't need another agency with a blank check. But i also think they are using this legit reason to prevent the agency from functioning.

Obama's Chevy Volt Gets 'Worst Product' Award
http://finance.yahoo.com/news/th…3. Volt
Company: General MotorsGM (GM) was originally so excited about the Volt that the company had announced in January it was speeding up its roll-out by six months. But by November the excitement had fizzled out. Larry Nitz, GM’s executive director for vehicle electrification told Reuters, “It’s naive to think that the world is going to switch tomorrow to EVs [electric vehicles].” Indeed, sales for the vehicle have been consistently low. Only 125 models were sold in July 2011. This was after GM spokeswoman Michelle Bunker was quoted as saying that the Volt was “virtually sold out” due to its popularity — a statement later shown to be misguided. Adding insult to injury, Chevy Volts are under investigation for fires involving the cars’ lithium-ion batteries. For concerned Volt owners, GM has offered free loaner cars.
The Obama Administrations' favorite car has had a rough time of late with sales goals not being met, exploding cars at NHTSA and media exposure of the high cost to taxpayers regarding Chevy Volt subsidies and federal funding of township purchases. Considering all the money spent by GM to hype the vehicle, the Worst Flop award is well-deserved.

" the carefully calibrated system of checks and balances that are hallmarks of the US constitutional system."
Is that what outrages you today mr trolly troll? The disturbance of the finely calibrated system of checks and balance, eh? And where were you when Bush took us to a couple of wars without congressional approval? Or was that you know, a gimmick you were down with? Patriot Act? That was all cool too, huh?
But now you are clutching your pearls? You have vapors?
Oh my, someone get the fair boy here some smelling salts for he is suddenly paying attention. Make sure someone stands behind him so he hits the floor gently when he passes out at all the rampant Kenyan socialism running amok.

If you want to blame any administration about our electric car problem, blame clinton/gore. if you were to look it up you would see that they held a summit with the american manufacturers in the 90's and threw tons of tax incentives at them to produce an electric car. here is the rub though, the didn't include the japanese. the japanese freaked out and really stepped up their game and lead the way. all the while we were turning out hummers and excursions and the like in the 90's. they squandered the money and now are a decade behind.

Locustsloth, you do know that JazX is a huge troll right? Why engage him with serious conversation? It is like trying to turn a ho into a housewife. :)

Why NOT engage him in serious conversation? When i have, i usually get serious conversation in return. And not just in this iteration, but in previous ones as well. It's only when he gets flooded with the JazX stuff, or called a troll or an ass or whatever, that he returns the same behavior.
You, Dobs, have a habit of denigrating anyone who disagrees with you. i've seen you demean someone's character in response to something you don't support a page after the two of you agreed on something else. You're passionate about you beliefs and that's fine. So is JazX.
In a nutshell, i'm trying to encourage respectful discourse by engaging in respectful discourse. If he decides to ignore the fact that i'm trying to be respectful, i'll likely stop engaging him. But so far, while pointed in his initial assertions, he has been fine in the ensuing discussions.
And i understand completely that you and BonSeff have probably done this already and it's crashed and burned. So why not just ignore it? Let pollyannas like me give it a try.- Not interested in engaging a troll who purposely tries to obfuscate his identity.DrBombay

http://www.mdjonline.com/view/fu…“I think Mitt Romney is a nice man, but I’m afraid of his Mormon faith,” Manning said. “It’s better than a Muslim. Of course, every time you look at the TV these days you find an ad on there telling us how normal they are. So why do they have to put ads on the TV just to convince us that they’re normal if they are normal? ... Deficits will start to get manageable when we get back to Clinton years level of tax rates. And the income will increase as we reduce unemployment. And the tax laws are simplified, hopefully to get rid of loopholes. Stimulus anyone? Infrastructure spending? We must replace the current Congress, I agree. You know the family can make more income also as well as cut back to suggest an appropriate corollary.
The GOP has presented us with out of touch crackpots. And Obama is the most conservative Dem president we have had since, oddly, Carter. Carter did nothing Keynesian and let the banks set the high interest rate. He did nothing about unemployment. If you can ignore the propaganda from the right wing both Carter and Obama are fiscal conservative in application of monetary policy. If someone tells you that Obama is a radical liberal, he really is incorrect.
We need to start a "new deal" of infrastructure spending, educational reform and aid and stiff financial regulations that does not allow fraud. Bring in more taxes from loophole eradication and higher rates for the top 1% that group has most of the extra wealth that is not in the system to tax anyway. I say do away with loopholes. But I am speaking of financial loopholes. There should be a tax for taking jobs and money offshore and a rebate for building jobs in the US. It is all very simple if we can get rid of present congress.
- Agreed. Easier said than done, unfortunately.locustsloth

i often wonder if taking the "career" out of "career politician" would help things. As in forcing politicians out of a given position after 4 or 6 years, somewhat like the presidency. It seems the longer that people are in Congress, the more they know how to game the system, the more potential for corruption. Maybe knowing that they only have X amount of years to get done what they want will motivate them to work faster and more efficiently.
clearly there are problems with this theory, but i think that if serving in congress was thought more of as a civic duty than a career choice, we MAY end up with better members.- The obvious rub is that any change to the nature of our governance would have to be approved by those it would negatively effect. ie "Not gonna happen"locustsloth
