Obama's numbers in a post-healthcare tailspin?
http://www.washingtonexaminer.co…[Liberals and White House advisors] viewed the rising public clamor against Obamacare as a temporary aberration, not as a lasting problem that could potentially undo his presidency. When Obamacare passed, they confidently reasoned, the public would suddenly appreciate its virtues and acquiesce to federal control over nearly every aspect of health care.
This notion consoled them in the following months as Republicans shockingly captured the governorships of New Jersey and Virginia, then the Senate seat held for more than four decades by Ted Kennedy in deepest blue Massachusetts. But despite these unmistakable electoral manifestations of deepening voter displeasure, Obama and congressional Democrats soldiered on, often resorting to desperation tactics, until they finally secured a victory that put Obamacare on the books as the law of the land.
But -- surprise! -- there has been no bump for Obama, nor for Democrats in Congress, nor for Obamacare. In fact, Obama's public approval rating now registers consistently below 50 percent and seems headed steadily downward, with polls conducted for CBS, Fox News, and Quinnipiac putting him in the mid-to-low 40s.

Jobs? Well, we don't have any money left for that
http://apnews.myway.com/article/…
The election-year jobs agenda promised by President Barack Obama and Democrats has stalled seven months before voters determine control of Congress.Democrats have no money to pay for the program. That's because both Republicans and the Democratic chairman of the Senate Budget Committee objected to taking money left over from the fund that bailed out banks, automakers and insurers and using it for the jobs bill.

Here's how I see it, no matter what happens in the fall, it will pretty much be the end of Congress getting big things done.
Because Republicans have shown themselves completely unwilling to compromise on anything. So if Democrats lose even a few seats in the Senate, they won't be able to pass anything.
But this cuts both ways. There's just no way Republicans are going to be able to win enough seats to have their own filibuster proof majority in this election cycle. Come to think of it, it's doubtful they'll be able to achieve it in 2012 or 2016 either!
Republicans have set the bar for passing anything incredibly high. So what you'll get is pretty much the status quo. The stimulus and health care reform and other Obama initiatives will stay in place, and the Obama administration will have free reign to issue executive orders, conduct foreign policy, and regulate through EPA, FTC, etc. Republicans will kick and scream a lot but won't be able to get anything done even if they retake Congress.

“What are the costs of a global financial oligarchy? Here are some thoughts on this:
A 35% tax on all productive activity. In the US economy, financial sector profits rose from ~5% to 40% over 35 years (much more if employee bonuses are factored in). Given that financial functions are administrative overhead and not ultimately productive, this means that 35% of every dollar generated by the US economy is being misallocated. Worse, the advent of computer automation (which is directly transferable to increasing productivity in finance) should have brought about a decrease in the economic overhead related to finance rather than a 700% increase.
Privatized Gains and Socialized Losses. This started as a solution to boom bust cycles in finance. Computer automation enabled participants to securitize risk (break apart debt primarily) in order to spread the burden among as many participants as possible. As a result, during bust periods, industry participants were driven to cooperate in order to prevent widespread failures (usually by preventing realization of losses). This allowed participants to use central bank subsidies (effectively costless loans) to earn themselves out of insolvency by taxing other market participants. The moral hazard this created drove successive boom and bust cycles with increasing amplitude. Ultimately, these cycles became so large and the financial sector so systemically important that it forced a taxpayer bailout in 2008 estimated at $20 + Trillion in outright subsidies or guarantees. This is a cost that is in addition to the direct tax cited above.
Greed, Control Fraud, and Looting. In addition to the systemic costs cited above, there has been a change in behavior among individual participants. Greed, which is the drive to routinely abuse trust in order to maximize personal profit, has become rampant. Why? Studies in political economics demonstrate that weakly enforced external legal structures rapidly displace established norms of behavior. This situation leads to a rapid rise in selfish, greedy, and self-dealing behavior. In contrast, the options that do work are strong self-governance that harshly punishes deviation from norms of behavior - or - strongly enforced, albeit expensively, external legal restriction. The rise of greed has led to rampant control fraud. This is a form of looting where the managers of private companies and/or governments use their positions to maximize short term personal gain. Worse, there are indications that this behavior change has spread to the entire economy. The costs of this rampant looting are incalculable.”

Amazing, a military spec op guy who sees the financial looting going on and doesn't blame it on the "commies".
Why? Because he's got a fucking education.

"Among other perks, Palin will fly first class - if she flies commercial. If not, "the private aircraft MUST BE a Lear 60 or larger ...," the contract specifies. She also must be provided with a suite and two single rooms in a deluxe hotel."
"Moreover, for Q&A sessions, the document specifies that "the questions are to be collected from the audience in advance, pre-screened and a designated representative...shall ask questions directly of the speaker [Palin] to avoid delay time with a roving microphone in the audience."

Tea Party Mainstream Disavows Extremist Views
By Cristina Corbin
- FOXNews.comhttp://www.foxnews.com/politics/…
"The Tea Party Express has toured state after state trying to kick up a debate about constitutional rights and cast doubt on the legality of the recently passed health care overhaul, all with an eye toward the 2010 elections. But while organizers have held the tour as a way to stay front-and-center as a political force, the rallies have also attracted the kinds of mistruths, exaggerations and conspiracy theories that make Tea Party leaders cringe."

A message to QBN Members about politics.
"Now to balance the scale I would like to talk about some things that bring us together. Some things to point out our similarities instead of our differences because that is all you ever hear about in this country is our differences, that is all the media and the politicians are talking about the things that separate us. The things that make us different from eachother.
That is how the rulling class operates in any society they try to divide the rest of the people. They keep the lower and middle classes fighting with eachother so they the rich can run off with all the fucking money.
Fairly simple thing, happens to work. You know anything different that is what they’re going to talk about. Race, religion, ethnic and national background, jobs, income, education, social status, sexuality, anything they can do to keep us fighting with eachother so they can keep going to the bank. You know how I describe the economic and social classes in this country? The upper class keeps all the money and pays none of the taxes. The middle class pays all of the taxes and does all of the work.
The poor are there just to scare the shit out of the middle class. Keep them showing up at those jobs."

Jobless benefits advance in Senate with Republican votes
By Ben Pershing
Tuesday, April 13, 2010http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp…
"The chamber voted 60 to 34 to proceed on a measure that would extend unemployment insurance, subsidies for the COBRA health insurance program and federal flood insurance through May 5. Four Republicans -- Sens. Scott Brown (Mass.), Susan Collins (Maine), Olympia J. Snowe (Maine) and George V. Voinovich (Ohio) -- joined every Democrat present in voting to move the bill forward, making it likely that the measure will pass in a final tally this week."

Since I was singled out, I feel a direct response is worth a bit of thread hijacking:
Dear Fred:
I love George Carlin. He has made several sanguine points, and the one cited by FreddieMac is solid.
That being said, I’m at a loss as to where to go from there.
It’s easy to differ with a lot of the principles that you list, Fred. For instance:
Taxed Enough Already: This is a matter of philosophy. I personally think that the wealthy should be taxed a great deal more. I also believe that income earned through work should be taxed at a very low rate, while income developed through interest should be taxed at a very high rate, if it is not invested back into the society by the individual. This would compel the wealthy to invest more specifically, in an effort to not pay taxes on money that they did not earn.
- You are so fucking ignorant... believing that the rich should be taxed more. Fuck me.MyMommies
- i think everyone but me should be taxed more... and so does everyone else.bulletfactory
- Explain why MyMommies. And this time, try to write like a grown-up.luckyorphan
- luckyorphan0
Ending Gov’t, Media, Banker, Corporate Corruption: When humans become perfect, this will be possible. Until then, this is a pipe dream, and we should simply be vigilant and advocate for a more open government. Conservatives and The Tea Party, however, choose to ignore the massive initiatives and hugely significant steps the Obama administration has taken to open gov’t information. This is intellectually dishonest.
Personal Responsibility: Can you be more specific?
Ending Wars and Bring Troops Home: Agreed.
- Again, you are ignorant. To suggest that the teaparty intellectually dishonest, is intellectually inept.MyMommies
- Explain why.luckyorphan
