I don't get why China feels they MUST have Taiwan...
- It's all a giant hissy fit. Never underestimate the power of a hissy fit.TheBlueOne
- This surrounds a massive argument as to whether Taiwan is a state or a country. The Nationalists at that time fled to Taiwan (then a Province of China), and claimed it as a different country.Sketchy

It seems everybody is jumping aboard the Obama express. The latest: Ken Duberstein, Ronald Reagan's former chief of staff, offered his endorsement this morning.
After endorsing Obama, Duberstein appeared on MSNBC, where he launched into a full-fledged assault on John McCain's judgment for selecting Sarah Palin. It was a sight to behold, not just for the denunciation of John McCain, but also for the sheer joy of watching the collapse of the GOP coalition before our very eyes

Palin told WMAL-AM that her criticism of Obama's associations, like those with 1960s radical Bill Ayers and the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, should not be considered negative attacks. Rather, for reporters or columnists to suggest that it is going negative may constitute an attack that threatens a candidate's free speech rights under the Constitution, Palin said.
"If [the media] convince enough voters that that is negative campaigning, for me to call Barack Obama out on his associations," Palin told host Chris Plante, "then I don't know what the future of our country would be in terms of First Amendment rights and our ability to ask questions without fear of attacks by the mainstream media."

The name Michael Goldfarb wouldn't name (video a few posts above) is Rev. Wright. There's a follow-up video where the interviewer talks about how they got the info on who Goldfarb was talking about on the condition that no more was said about it.
That, to me, is bizarre. First, why wouldn't he name a name that's already been through the ringer and second, why all the secrecy about who he was alluding to?

In a general sense, the candidate preferences of the broad group of all registered voters have been remarkably steady for over two weeks now, showing little fluctuation despite both candidates' intense campaigning, the huge amount of news coverage of the election, and high levels of voter attention to the election. Obama's percent of the vote among registered voters has varied only between 50 -52% for the last 16 days, and McCain's has varied only between 41-43%.
Gallup's estimates of likely voters show more variation; these calculations take into account not only candidate preferences, but also the individual respondent's interest in the election, self-reports of intention to vote, and for the traditional model, reports of past voting history and knowledge of voting procedures. The average Obama lead over McCain among traditional likely voters since Oct. 6 has been five points, but that lead has expanded over the last several day's reports, and Obama's current 52-42% lead among this group is the largest to date.

L.A.Times: "Garry Trudeau's 'Doonesbury' is predicting a victory for Barack Obama, and newspaper editors are debating whether to publish the comic no matter the results of Tuesday's election. Wednesday's strip is set in Iraq and features military characters huddled around a television that proclaims 'And it's official — Barack Obama has won. ...'
In an e-mail to the Los Angeles Times, Trudeau said newspapers should run the strip because '... polling data gives McCain a 3.7 percent chance of victory. There's a greater risk that their presses will break down on Election Day. So I've been encouraging editors to choose hope over fear. And reminding them that if I'm wrong, it'll be my face that'll be covered with egg, not theirs.' Trudeau said he's not worried about the comic if his prediction is wrong. 'I'd be a lot more worried about the country than the strip. One reporter has already suggested I just carry on with an alternative universe in which Obama wins. It's not a crazy idea. ...'
From the John McCain camp, spokesman Tucker Bounds said: 'We hope the strip proves to be as predictive as it is consistently lame.'
