Fuck you Bush.
" The White House is working to enact a wide array of federal regulations, many of which would weaken government rules aimed at protecting consumers and the environment, before President Bush leaves office in January.
The new rules would be among the most controversial deregulatory steps of the Bush era and could be difficult for his successor to undo. Some would ease or lift constraints on private industry, including power plants, mines and farms."

I have to say I thought that america was a bit thick but fuck me, last night the bbc did a question time programme from Washington with an american panel.

What a lot of idiots there are. IT's like politics are a game. Whooping and high 5ing. No one says anything thats their own oppinion.
- Exactly, but this type of thing isn't limited to the states. Jackasses are everywhere.JKristofer
- I mean, it's a bit thick to call a country a bit thick. Know what I mean?JKristofer
- UK has them NL has them. JK< the US is just always under the magnifying glass..janne76

I watched that Question Time with the g/f.
ok, we had a few glasses of wine but she found it hard to watch she was cringing so much.
THEN we ended up having a mad bullshit debate on minarchism, fallacy of pride etc and polishing off a few bottles of wine into the early hours...
NOW i have a painful hangover and I can't get any work done.
SO.... all I can say is FUCK YOU AMERICAN QUESTION TIME.
- damn, i missed it... I'm gonna watch it now on iPlayerKhurram
- not worth it. my g/f just cringes at any bullshit really.lowimpakt
- i see. i remember seeing the same whooping and wopping during run up to the Iraq war. when they did a US Question Time.Khurram
- i did, in fact listen to a great programme on the financial crisis and the Bolivarian revolution on radio 4 last nightKhurram
- i'll catch that on iPlayer...lowimpakt

Alright not all thick, but I have a theory that the politics of america are poorly thought out and argued. They all talked in sounds bites and slogans and everyone cheers or boos. Honestly its a fucking circus.
If there ever was an advert as to why investing in top notch education is the most important thing a state can ever ever do it ws last night and the last couple of months.
- Agreed. We do our politics like we do everything: Big and loud with little nuance, It's sad.BRNK
- Granted, we are a much larger and more diverse country than any other so I could see arguing that in order to appeal to a wide enough swath of voters to become elected mean politicians are forced to go this route.BRNK

That young Nixon guy who would answer a question with a soundbite, pause and then look to the audience for approval..... what a dick.

Politics in America is so different to here. So much more polarised, and people get so much more worked up about it over there.
You know, part of me admires that, cos that kind of debate we've lsot here. Everyone's so apathetic in the UK, so disengaged from the political process, at least people think there's somethign worth fighting for over there.
But the problem is, the reality, how it's played over there - with the sound bites and the media image. A lot of intelligent discourse is compeltely lost. It's all just a lot of slander, strawmen, and EMPTY RHETORIC.
- yeah it's a lot of fun.lackofcolor
- Yeah the media has done a good job at letting people believe their vote will effect the world...JKristofer
- ...so they take it very seriously over here.JKristofer
- Also, this is an interesting election...first serious black and female candidates etcukit
- i was thinking more of shit like: Gay rights, abortion, gun control, "big government" etc.. smoke and mirror issuesKhurram
- not to mention the ugly "my country, right or wrong" patriotism.Khurram
- ha, i just watched Question Time US. That just confirms my WORST impressions about politics over there :-/Khurram
- Corporate law reform is one of the most important issues the US needs to deal with, but no politicians ever even mention it.BRNK
- exactly.Khurram

Why White Supremacists Support Barack Obama

On the conference call, David Plouffe made the case that in key states -- including Florida, North Carolina, Nevada, Georgia, and New Mexico -- the race is already well on its way to being decided, because so many people have voted early.
"We’re sort of out of the land of theory in a lot of these states," he said. "You’re starting to see how the election is going to unfold."
Plouffe touted number suggesting that new and sporadic voters are showing up for Obama, a key factor.
You can see the staggering early vote numbers here. In five states, the votes already cast represent more than half of the total 2004 votes -- a reminder that the notion of "election day" has become a bit outmoded, as a tactical matter.

Tell you what tho, that Simon Schama documentary on the US that's been running on the BBC, is a total load of bollox, i don't mind telling you.

hey music fans/ lovers of political discourse.
my friend matt (dj cntrl) from miami is a poli sci and sociology teacher for a high school in ft lauderdale as well as a dj and drummer. he has assembled a montage of great music and samples political commentary from film and speeches. it's intense- right now i'm listening to samples from "good night and good luck" over the nat'l anthem (radiohead, not oh say can you see).

Obama and McCain - Dance Off!

yet, the difference here, the debate is a little more toned down, in EU and NL, despite a few populists like mrs. Verdonk (compares best to Palin, a diva, no brains, but huge mouth) and right wing conservatist Geert Wilders...
