The worst part about all this that I just can't get over.

I made a comment a few months ago that some good will come from Trump running for President. I said, it will bring all of the racism, sexism, and social injustices to light. Racists will come into the light and show themselves for who they are, and when the Democrats win we'll label them as such. I even jokingly said we'd mandate that they wear a scarlet "T" on their clothing to show their true colors.

Now, I'm scared to death WE'LL actually be the ones wearing the scarlet "T" on our clothing. T standing for Tolerance. We'll be the ones shunned and made fun of. It's fucking terrifying.

My son had his best friend over to play at the house yesterday. They're 7. His friend is black and was adopted by white parents. When his mother came over to the house to pick him up she acted a bit awkward and was strangely silent. After a few moments my wife made the comment that I got so hot on Facebook speaking down about Trump. She broke down in tears and said "thank God" and went on about how scared she's been. That just, can't, happen. What the fuck world do we live in. Seriously. I am at a fucking loss still having this fucking helmet as President.

What I am struggling to get my head around and am taking a lot of flak on Facebook for is my inability to swallow the idea that this was the Democrats fault.

That rigging the primaries and putting Hillary up rather than Bernie put Trump in power.

Now excuse me if I am wrong but this election proved the US is a v.strong democracy and that MSM do not have as much influence as we thought.

Around 50% of the voters ticked the box that said racist, bigotted, sexist, climate change denying moron.

What is certain is they were not voting against Obama / Clinton foreign policy - noone cal tell me a Trump voter wants less influence in the Middle East and don't tell me they know a better way of dealing with it.

50% of the voters voted for racism / sexism / a step backwards.

Whatever you want to say about them - democrats never stood for that.

Terrfiying now the dust has settled.

Am I making sense? Probably not.

    • Dems lost because they put out a weak candidate. 50% did not vote for racism and sexism, that's ridiculous.IRNlun6

Help me out here. Interested to know if I'm right or wrong or crazy with regard to my previous post about the people committing racially motivated acts of violence towards minorities.

I basically said "this is on you if you supported him. your support helped make this possible."

And understandably, some Trump supporters were pissed, tried to deflect to Clinton, or tried to place blame solely on the individuals who did the damage as if Trump's candidacy had nothing to do that.

I firmly believe that if Trump had been shut down in the primaries, we'd be seeing a whole lot less of this. I think his turning a blind eye to so much of the negativity, his encouraging it in many cases, and his inability to strongly speak out at how people were treating each other emboldened what's going on with some Trump supporters.

If any other primary candidate had won, I can't see this happening. Kasich, Rubio, Bush... I can't imagine those guys using language that inspired that behavior, and I can't imagine them standing idly by while a white nationalist movement reared it's ugly head.

Therefore, I think it's valid to say that even if you disagree with it, their support of him made it possible. Their inability to shun him during the primaries and put him out of the race for good allowed him to continue. And their vote is bringing him to power.

That feels like very simple logic, a very simple example of cause and effect.

    Any thoughts on that?

    • This seems ripe for Yurimon to actually contribute to and lay it all out for us in terms of logic, consequence, etc. I can't believe I'm saying that... ;)mg33

    • The comments like " I voted for the guy because I couldn't vote for Hillary" don't negate that their vote represented support, and made winning possible.mg33
    • Absolutely mg33kona
    • What's great though, is that even some of these people who are pissed at what I said can at least say, "i don't agree, but I still respect you, etc."mg33

  • Fax_Benson6

Here's my take, then I'm out for a while (apart from a few snide comments in the notes)

The real problem with Trump is that he's intellectually bankrupt. The reason he ran such a divisive campaign isn't because he's innately racist (although he is certainly a misogynist), it's because that's all he's got. He's dangerous because he doesn't know what he's doing and the only thing he can realistically deliver on is the domestic immigration issue, the same as UKIP etc.

That infowars Trump video montage. It's called 'this will get Trump elected' or something, and it worked. But it's a collection of cherry-picked clips from 40 years of public comments and there's not a single policy idea. It's just Trump repeating the problems back at you, with a wanky piano score to make it seem profound. How's he going to get these manufacturing jobs back? Undercut Chinese wages?Green tech?

I tentatively predicted a Trump win. Others here did so much more confidently. I think lots of people understood that the conditions were right for someone to harness the resentment. The system's corrupt. The working class have been disenfranchised. Mass immigration doesn't work for the hosts. The left is in crisis. Globalisation only works for those at the top. This isn't new. It isn't news. We know all this. Mainstream media has been talking about nothing else. Trump is the wrong man at the right time.

Let's shake up Washington and see what happens isn't a plan. As we've proved in the Middle East, getting rid of the dictator is the easy bit. It's what comes next that we tend to fuck up. Because we're obsessed with the other side being the problem, and that getting rid of it is an end in itself.

The opportunity to do something constructive was huge, but people decided to saddle up with with the first dickhead to ride into town.

Great minds should be lining up with Trump to set a new agenda. What an opportunity. Where are Trump's best people? Why are Trump and Farage the spokespeople for this incredible new movement? Why is it full of cunts? Where are the normal people? They're not interested because it's backwards bullshit.
