Why are rural areas mostly republican? Is it because they are less educated and ignorant? Or is it because they need less government in their lives because they live in remote areas and don't utilize many aspects of society? Or is it both?

    • They need government to channel the subsidies to rural areas throughlowimpakt
    • Less educated in what way? a lot of them are farmers, salt of the earth type. none of us educated urbanites can do what they do. They like tradition._niko
    • ultimately it's a different way of life.
They like a slower pace, clean air, fresh food, family values etc. Doesn't make them ignorant or lower than urbanites

    • calling them out as redneck racist bigots for the last 12+ years... accusing them of 'clinging to their guns and religion' and dismissing them as ignorant...PonyBoy
    • ... bible-thumpers anytime they shared an opinion that may have been faith-based probably didn't help much either... HIllary referred to them as deplorable...PonyBoy
    • ... that's not exactly going to get middle america to jump up and vote democrat.PonyBoy
    • Its common to be at Right when you're poor and/or less educated. Its the same everywhere.Bennn
    • not true, there are plenty of on the left that are poor and/or less educated. They just happen to be in cities._niko
    • ^one can argue it's common to be Left when you're poor / less educated... think inner-city welfare recipients that refuse to get off the gov. nipplePonyBoy
    • I mean ignorant or less educated in foreign policy or the broad responsibilities of the president.

    • 2nd one probably has somethingbto do with it. They see little in the way of services for their tax dollarsmonNom
    • So they want smaller got, which the Republic tend to use as a platform. They're no smarter or dumber than anyone else thoughmonNom
    • And you see a lot of unenlightened language from the left. Calling rural voters "Rednecks/whitetrash... is used to diminish and dehumanize that group.monNom
    • "Deplorables" was the third word in that too-long string.monNom
