But wait....
Roger Ebert gave it 3 stars and a pretty glowing review.....hmmm
I'm not gonna pay for it....but I may check it out on watch-movies.net
at least until I find something better to do

Just got back from the theater.
I'm not entirley impressed with this one. I don't think I can say why because it'd be giving too much away at this point.
I'm an 'I Might Shave-my-lama' fan, but this film didn't hit the mark.

I just finished watching this, and I have to say all of this hate is excessive.
Irrational environmentalism and pseudoscience aside, it's genuinely creepy and a interesting take on the end-of-the-world scenario. Worth seeing, but perhaps not in the theater...
- hmmm...that seems a little TOO rational. I suggest you back out slowly.marychain

okay.....it wasn't great....but I was expecting a lot worse.
This is not worse than lady in the water

One of the worst. Movies. Ever. A lame social commentary on environmentalism, global warming, and self infliction.

god-awful. Shyamalan is dead to me.

Saw it last night and I'm usually a fan of this stuff, I even give Lady in the Water more credit than it deserves but The Happening is almost laughable.
*SPOILER* Everytime "Night" wants to build tension he plays some eery music and cuts to a shot of some trees or grass blowing in the wind. The whole bloody film is based around killer foliage! What combination of drugs was he taking to make that concept sound like a good idea? Nutter.
Cherry popped, rant over, lurking resumed.

Have to admit I saw it last night thanx to all the hype about it on this page. I downloaded a cheap copy of it and sat through it... (was not going to pay to see this) I have never said this so honestly... this movie SUCKED! wtf was he thinking? seriously!

*Spoilers*
I saw this last night. I actually liked it, but having Shamamalyna directing it certainly hurt it overall. A few pieces of critique:
1. M.N.S. has no clue how to do opening titles. I don't want to hear it, he's retarded in this area. He shouldn't be allowed within 1 mile of opening titles or fonts. This was on par with Signs for that.
2. If he thinks this is a B movie he has no clue about cinema. Being a huge fan or horror, zombies, and B movies, I've seen a fair share, and this was not it. However, it seems like he did try and give some nods to B movies.
3. Nods to Romero. The TV sequence at the end with the reporter and the scientist seemed to pull from the original Night of the Living Dead work "when there is no more room in hell, the dead will walk the earth", as well as the radio sequences "The dead are coming back to life and seeking human victims". It all seemed similar. So while he failed to capture a true B movie, it seems like he tried, and wanted to be artsy about it.
4. Crazy Old Lady & boarded up house w/ shotguns - another interest nod perhaps to horror movies(?). Early work like Texas Chainsaw and [again] Night of the Living Dead may have been inspiration.
5. Ending: I would have preferred a more abrupt ending. I don't know what being pregnant had to do with anything. Fail.
6. I did like the overall story, even though I know some people will H8 it. The idea was the making of a good horror movie (you can't hide, you will die), and the tension and confusion were good.
So I'd say see it, but have low/fun expectations.

I love M. Night Shyamalan's movies so much, but this one was just bad. I don't know if it's a producer thing or not, but the R ratedness just seemed forced, as well as almost every piece of dialogue in the whole fucking movie. Completely disgraceful.
P.S. Jfletcher you don't know shit about cinematic title sequences if you think the opening credits in this movie and signs were bad. They were the best part about The Happening.
