"It's simple, and looks good..."
"Your page body layouts are great..."
"I like what I'm seeing..."Sorry to be brutal but, I really disagree with what people are saying!
Comments about capitalisation and highlighting of active tabs... I think there are some overarching fundamental design flaws than those. The layout, colours, type and even production quality are all pretty bad.
Ok, constructive criticism? Again, not meaning to be harsh, but it's hard to know where to start. First off, the layout would greatly benefit from some uniform spacing, it's all over the place. Look at the distance between the areas of content and the edges etc. The grid needs some regularity to its gutters.
- You're right.
I looked at what the site was about and figured it's just supposed to be simple though.Jaline

See? That wasn't so hard, was it? Everyone has a level and the thing to do is to aim your criticism or guidance so that it's appropriate to that level. Everyone on here has useful advice to offer - be it from the professional's or user's perspective.
You apologise for being 'brutal' - you needn't - being blunt cuts to the point and sidelines the murky bullshit which can distract from the root problem. Of course, it's always a good idea to temper that with some positives, no matter what you actually think.
ps. I'm still using your phiculator after... gosh knows how long :)

again, more great comments. proper grid structure and hierarchies are more important to me right now than style. thanks thismanslife.

By my standards it's too wide.
You should either make it fluid to 780px or <= 780px strict.
If this was an artsy site catering to more techy people I could see stretching it to 1024px but it isnt. This site caters to an older, less "techy" crowd which I'm willing to bet has about 10-15% users with 800px resolution.
Just my opinion.
- Good point. But since September, only 199 out of 1448 have 800x600. All are greater. Tx tho.jaylarson

Looks ok for me.
As the other people said, less fonts bit more hierarchy on the copy.
And possibly i'll refine a bit the tabs (more padding / font smaller but bold). and soften the drop shadow on the logo.
And maybe add a title and some bullets to the menu in the sires catalog
I can guess which kind of client this one is, and you did well.

I like the clean simplicity of the site. But the typography isn't working very well.
There are 4 different fonts in the first 4 cm. This seems unnecessary and contributes to a general sense of typographic unease about the site.
The main body copy is set too wide - the optimum line length for onscreen text is 7-10 words before peoples' eyes have trouble following the line.
The way the copy wraps around the photos looks messy. None of the photos are on any discernable grid structure. All gutters are inconsistent.
nice cow tho.

One suggestion I have is to develop the hierarchy of your copy a little more. Give it more visual variety if that makes sense. You are starting to do it here: http://www.normandegenetics.com/… with the main copy on the left versus the copy on the right hand column.
- i see. the right column's text is a big large. thanks.jaylarson
