Wow, it gets better with each episode! I always thought time-travel was a part of it, but that the writers would never get into that because it will turn a lot of people off from the show. You still can't say exactly what the hell is going on, but this episode did have a great story behind it.
I think Desmond and Penny are the only couple I can stand on this show (besides Rose and Bernard, but they aren't shown that much anyway). They don't make me cringe and I don't want them to break up. Desmond looks quite nice with a haircut.
I thought Faraday could time-travel or something, but he probably can't since he's mostly healthy (he's a bit of a "mad scientist" though). Unless he found some way to not die. But really, after meeting Desmond, he probably just wanted to write that part down in his journal in case he did go insane or in case another present/future experience came about to him again.
- I just want Jack and Kate to get it on...for the whole 42 minutes of the episodes...all of themwendog

I loved that episode last night. I love love love the bizarro physics time travel stuff.Really brings it full circle after four seasons.

They can't give you any answers until the last season. And even then....you may not get all of them.
They have to leave some questions for the movie that will be made after...
:P

Time-traveling is done pretty well in "Journeyman", actually. Too bad it got cancelled. Everyone watch it on DVD!

I felt bad that I never watched that show. That actor (the red haired guy) was great in Rome on HBO
- Jaline0
Yeah, Kevin McKidd is always great.

On another topic, while I love some of the individual episodes of this show, I don't think I can bring myself to ever buy it on DVD. Maybe once the series is over and years after that, when the price is lower (and it will undoubtedly be on Blu-Ray). But dramas in general don't really do it for me when I want to watch TV randomly. I would much rather watch comedy, because it's usually still funny and I don't remember what will happen eventually (because comedies don't usually have a total finale). Whereas with "Lost", each episode builds on the previous one.

"...a unique effect of time travel is that your womb will always age, however, your body won’t age. When the time comes for Ben’s mom to give birth, she dies, but still manages to produce a baby boy. The reason she died was because the timeline was course correcting to replace her with Ben."
"1981: After a good bit of time on the island, Ben hears and sees his dead mother outside his house on the island! The reason he sees her is because in an “alternate future,” she was actually alive and working on this island for DHARMA. She appears half-dead to him because her dead spirit is designed to “help Ben understand his destiny” so that he can carry on her legacy. Thus, her spirit is time’s way of course correcting the future. "
"the “rules of the time machine” are not governed by any physical definitions of time travel. The “rules,” if you will, are governed by how FATE decides to preserve the timeline. Thus, if you are required to do something profound in a future timeline, fate will find any way possible to preserve the time"
"Shortly after Ben sees his dead mom, he sees Richard in the jungle, who says “you’re not ready.” Richard is a time traveler - and a DHARMA-hater."
"DHARMA releases a disease on the island which infects many of the Others. Then DHARMA claims to the others that they can cure the disease with this special “device,” the device being a time machine. This, however, is NOT obvious to the Others - they just want to get cured, and think the time machine is some type of complex vaccination. What DHARMA is actually trying to test is if people go back in time to a point before they were infected, can they be cured of the virus? As fate would predict, the others go back in time and are cured of the virus, only to be later killed by the smoke monster, as the monster is the “physical means” in which the timeline course corrects itself."
Genius! Especially about the smoke monster.
Thanks for the article, jkmohr. It's very interesting.
It's funny how the creators mentioned how the show would not have any time travel on it. But this was before. They could've changed their minds. And the audience is stupid if they actually get upset about something like that. Suck it up!

That theory was so detailed it made me wonder if one of the show's writers leaked it.
The only question I have is, if going back in time "resets" you to how you were at that time, why would Locke's paralysis be cured but Claire still be pregnant after arriving on the island? And what about Walt, who would have been a baby or not even born yet at that point?
I realized he answered that but I didn't find the answer convincing. But it could also be a hole in the plot of the show rather than disproving the theory.

possible spoiler
This theory is so complex nobody will get it even if they explain how it works in the show. This is what made Back To The Future 2 a flop.
I didn't like the episode, it was cheap cheesy romantic sci-fi, Sayid killing people around the world Bond / Bourne style was way way more believable and more fun.Penny give me your number or check my midichlorians! Mouse dies, Minkowski dies, I need to call my constant and I'm instantly saved!
- Jaline0
noooo....raf....don't make me dislike your comments... :P
I think Desmond and Penny's relationship signifies hope more than anything else. While I totally don't go for the cheesy romantic relationships on the show, at least it isn't just about the relationships of couples, as many other shows have transformed into. We get that kick-ass fighting and/or treachery and/or "people hurting" stuff nearly every day, so I appreciated the slight change.
Sayid killing people was definitely a great episode, but I don't want the show catering to just one type of viewer. I would've been out a long time ago if that was the case.
- Jaline0
Oh, but I totally agree about the theory. I love that the show is potentially very complicated (because it means that the creators assumed that the audience is intelligent enough to grasp the concepts they are presenting), but at the same time it will make many viewers (who are just in it for the entertainment) very frustrated. Although, I am guessing most of those types of viewers don't watch the show anymore or just catch random episodes without analyzing everything too much.
I can see this resulting in lower viewing statistics for the show.
- ukit0
I think if this is the right theory they will explain it slowly, piece by piece. Maybe there will even be episodes going back into how the others and the Dharma originally arrived on the island.
Let's face it, with all the shit that has happened so far on this show there is not gonna be some simple ten second answer to wrap it all up.
