I'm rocking Vista Ultimate and here are the programs I use most often (ahem, most are Microsoft Products):
- Office 2k7
- Visual Studio 2k7
- SQL 2k7
- Adobe Photoshop
- Adobe IllustratorI turn off all the crap with transperancy, and that sidebar thing though.
I run a lot of other smaller programs, then again my laptop is also dual core duos or something ridiculous and has the ability to have a few resource hogs running at once with no effect to user experience.

Can't you just format all the drive partitions then use an xp disc to install?
I don't think I'd want to, I've been on vista about 5 months and it's much better than xp apart from the fact I now have to run virtual machine with xp just to test sites in IE6.

Hmmm. I run similar stuff.
What version of CS - 2 or 3?
I heard there were problems with 2, which I'm still using.*stares out of window at mixture of sun and clouds. wonders if this is a sign of things to come.
fu*k it!
I guess I'm gonna' test drive that b*tch and see what I can see. Orderin' up a DELL tomorrow.

(Nov 6 07, 09:25)Oh, stop it!
does that really happen?

Dear ItTango:
First of all, don't call a laptop a "notebook".
Secondly, what the hell are you going to run on Vista that you think it will mess up?Seriously, other than the bubbly mac look of Vista(which you will get use to), its functionality is amazing! People that are having troubles with Vista are people that have machines that can't handle it.
If you are buying a brand new machine, don't worry about it..
And by the way, there is no way to downgrade Operating Systems.
You would have to Wipe Vista and load Windows XP fresh. You can only upgrade Windows, and I still wouldn't recommend doing that.
So if you really want to downgrade, let me know and I can help. (for a fee...)

is that like a Baby Wipe, only w/ Balmer Balm on it?

(Nov 6 07, 07:50)Who told you to put a balm on it?

Everyone I work with has those cool acronyms like McEnroe but I am too lazy to take any of the tests.
So I put Esq., for Esquire.
Holds a lot more weight than MCPD, MCSD, or MCSE if you ask me.*
* And only if you ask me.

you have a law degree?
....cause Esq. is only applicable when you have a law degree in the US.... ;)

So, back to my original question:
Anyone here removed the preinstalled Vista OS from a new machine and lived to tell about it...
or are you buzzards just waiting to see if I'll survive?I feel so cold and alone right now.
ItTango
(Nov 6 07, 08:09)Ok, I havent used pc in years but why is this so difficult?
I mean, open the computer, format it, then isntall xp.
why would that be a problem?

Dear ItTango:

(Nov 6 07, 10:15)hahahaha!
who calls a laptop a notebook anymore? where you born in 1961?
- ItTango0
Dear McEnroe...
SORRY 'BOUT THE LINGO.Now then...
No one who as ever used a PC will move to a new Windows OS without a bit of trepidation.Especially when your current OS runs like butter.
Remember Windows Millennium?
And given the PLETHORA of software makers crafting products for PCs, driver compatibility is a constant concern.
But, I have maxed out my trusty Toshiba - I need more power and efficiency.
Aside from the design stuff, I am a musician. I occasionally mix smaller projects on my Note, uh... Laptop.
I run Sonar 6 producer (upgrading to 7 momentarily), Sound Forge, a bunch of VSTs and process it all through M Audio hardware.
So, I'm a bit concerned.
Finally, as evidenced by the title of this thread, I am aware you must "wipe Vista" reinstall SATA drivers and so on if you wanna' go back to XP.
Nonetheless, I'm doing all the good stuff by organizing all of my hardware and driver info so I'll be ready for whatever happens when the new baby arrives.
- Witt0
I wouldn't do it. Not on a laptop. i hear there are specific drivers for new hardware you probably won't find for a proper downgrade.
- ItTango0
Yeah, Witt.
I'm gonna' load it up and run it before making any OS change.Hopefully it won't be necessary.
- flavorful0
Haha actually, I've heard about using the Esquire, but it is more to TheBlueOne's post.
Plus ... I've spent time in court, I know lawyers, and future lawyers.
I think if I ever got called on it, I could get out of any trouble.
- Witt0
Yeah, Witt.
I'm gonna' load it up and run it before making any OS change.Hopefully it won't be necessary.

(Nov 6 07, 12:36)I once tried to clean a CompaQ new. Couldn't do it. At the time they had their own BIOS or whatever that was. I'm no expert though - but proprietary laptops from big corps are usually a big adventure to wipe anew.
- xhanubis0
dude don't "wipe" vista until you try it. Its a much better OS than xp.
I have three laptops hp dv4000: xp, hp 6500: vista, macbook pro.
vista is a good OS its not perfect but no OS is, whats importamt is that its an improvement on xp.
I use vista ultimate 64bit.
- Witt0
yes, try it before you let it go. Post your impressions here, too.
