I'm wrapping up this site for an LA wardrobe stylist. A lot of the content is dictated by the client, If I had my way I think it would be a lot catchier.. But as far as all around layout and design scheme, what do you think?

its nice but why is there a nav at the top if it just a one pager with little room for scrolling all the links do is take you to the middle of the page...
it jsut seems strange to have it like that...i mean i click on "background" and it scrolls down liek 30 pixels....?????
strange...
otherwise its nice..

honestly:
the fleurs look warped/skewed and weird, the Rosewood is not working- typography needs work in general. also too many colors and they don't really flow.

I kindof agree with you edd-e but the portfolio is set up to be added too/edited by the client. If she puts 30 pieces in there the contact section will be 3 feet below the header so it will need nav. I just didnt think it would look right with nav to the other sections and not the background section.
Plus most people wont treat that as a nav anyway, more like a list of contents..
Just my thoughts, but thanks..

Well thanks for that Soler..
I happen to like the Rosewood, and your the only person who hasn't like the colors. But I guess thats because I haven't asked for opinions on NT.Thanks.

I think the site's message doesn't really come across. For example what does Kristi want to get from having this site up.
Is she looking to get work as a stylist? Or just some general job in the fashion industry.
I think it's partly a problem more with the IA. Rather than the design.
Right now it doesnt really get the point across in my opinion. I don't really get a true understanding of her skills.
A section on her services would be more effective, with concrete examples, of her role on the project etc. And a clear piece of copy that explains what she is looking to do for her potential employer, customer.
blah just my 2 cents man. But othewise I don't mind the design.

look att the other site crit in the PVN and notice the theme is a "surfer" and you see that theme as the background image helping solidify the sitess content.
maybe instead of that bright orange as the background, use some images that relate to the fashion industry.
perhaps use some fashion poses or something relating to the industry.
the colours are not working that well and they dont help strengthen the sites content as a fashion site for a stylist, i dont see it yet...needs more work, and yes the fonts as well they need to represent the industry much better, when you think of fashion think of something flowing and moving something soft, not hard edged...
you are on the right track but you need to flesh it out more...
go purchase some fashion mags and just look at the first 40 pages of fashion ads...look at the fonts used and the colours...look at selling the site aas fashion is moving so faast so should the site.
it should read FASHIONABLE!!!!

I think you are off to a great start/midway point - Im a fan of your overall art direction (with the patterns and colors), as well as the treatment of the buttons below. Im not a fan of the large type - this makes it look like a kid made it or more elementary. You can still make it more elegant by lowering the font size. and playing with type lockups.
Hope that helps ->

too grungy for a stylist's site. the colors are garish and the type is too aggressive for the work being shown.
use some textiles instead of the print patterns and ornaments. make it like a nicely layered outfit instead of a flat website. give it some visual weight and depth.
and also, yor comment about people not treating what appears to be the navigation as the navigation, and rather contents, is completely off base due to the fact that is the area the navigation occupies in roughly more than half of the sites on the internet. it's a site, not a book or magazine.

focus on the stylist not how it is designed.
gives wrong impression of the stylist

I get the overall theme of reponses here.
It doesn't represent fashion and doesn't clarify the purpose of having the site.
This is because the client asked me to take off a huge section outlining her skills and examples of work done using those skills. She also picked them design scheme over a more 'fashion-geared' theme.
Your comments are my frustrations with this client exactly..
The fonts, especially the headers for the sections are too big and bold, I'll work with that and I'll try out replacing the navigation with basically some sort of description on how to use the site.. where the portfolio section is and where and what the contact section is..

Thank you version4, that has been fixed.. Using a PNG and the IE PNG fix..
So I know for next time, why is it so 'atrocious' to have a transparent gif like that?
- version30
that's nice, shadow looks great!

step up!
there is a time to bend over and there is a time to voice your opinion. if you are confident, then do it!
- material-10
jeez, is she like sharon stones personal stylist?
- iwlyfel0
hah, thanks material, that reminds me
she gave me ANOTHER sharon stone spread to resize and crop!
- iwlyfel0
and version4
can you tell me real quick why it's bad to use transparent gifs? I know PNGS look better but are there any reason why GIFS are bad?
I'm worried about IE users with javascript turned off..

i have to agree with Soler. the typography looks cheap. are those all free fonts you used?? you can tell.
i would stick to clean fonts - avant garde, helvetica or a nice serif - mrs Eaves, bodini etc.
colours are too bright. it looks like she does kids styling. use black/grey/white and maybe throw one colour in there. then let the images be the main sources of colour, this will make them stand out more and wont compete with your backgrounds/font colours
- version30
my initial problem was with the red on blue because i'm colorblind and i see a weird shift with the shades you used. in my eyes it literally flickers side to side. it still does slightly, but the fade/shading helps soften it.
strange i know, but true.

png = soft gradient alpha
gif = hard edged alphaboth used at particular instance
png is not supported by all browsers
