i've become totally disenchanted with Toronto.
If you've ever lived in a world-class city, you'll hate it here.
I still can't understand the comparisons with New York city and Chicago. As far as I'm concerned, they're not in the same ballpark.

We just escaped from Calgary. The last thing that city needs is more designers.
I suppose the same is true of Toronto, and Vancouver. All are completely saturated markets.
The further east you go the better, every city from Toronto on is desperate for talented people.

Ya Ottawa is the bomb :)

If you like to smoke go to BC, if you want to find a job I'd say Calgary or Toronto but if you want to have a good time go to Newfoundland, that's where the cool people are.

the nice thing about design is you can do it from just about anywhere - being in Canada just makes it more enjoyable. One thing... Vancouver clients are the cheapest.

I lived in Alberta for 9 years. Six in Calgary. 3 in Edmonton. Edmonton is a dump. Calgary is boring. Thats all thats to it. After living in B.C. for one year Alberta seems like a disint dream.

I did a 2 month internship in Nelson, B.C - like someone said, go to Vancouver, or anywhere B.C if you like very very good weed, good skiing, biking, etc etc etc. I didn't see Toronto but I heard it's got more bustle. I fucking loved every second I was in Canada with every bone in my body, and would recommend it to anyone. No ground breaking work coming out of the country really though.

Canada is a great place to live, just not sure if it's a goldmine for designers. I prefer large cities with suburbs close by to live in.

Check out what Mayor David Miller says about new TO developments in the latest issue of Toronto Life.
http://www.torontolife.com/featu…I heard PEI is the hottest place in North America! I say move there!

and how many of us jumped into this gig for the money in the first place? it's all about what you love and where you love to do it.

Come to Montreal. It's Canada's best kept secret. cheap cost of living, good food, culture, vibrant music scene.
and the tech industry has been picking up, so i recommend jumping on the bandwagon now.
Montreal is the smoking section of Canada.
ok i know that doesn't really make sense anymore with the new smoking law, but ya know what i mean right! (right..?)
- Jaline0
damn, those Frenchies smoke A LOT. Also, Montreal has been outed in various high-profile magazines for having great music so it hasn't exactly been under the radar for a good place to move to...just under the radar so far in this thread.

montreal has style and flair
i really enjoyed being there a couple of months ago.
if you're into moving slowly on trasit and/or being stuck in traffic for 2 hours toronto is the place for you.

Ottawa is shit, don't go there.
Toronto has everything you need.

go to Sudbury, Ontario.
redesign the whole city and its population. everything and everybody is ugly over there.

when I move back to canada, whenever that may be, I'm just gonna travel around the NW Territories and the Yukon for a few months and then I reckon I'd settle in Montreal... Way better than Toronto..

So basically the grass is greener on the other side of wherever you are. I'm doing the whole immigration thing. Sent off the forms in January - my receipt says expect to hear from them in 36 months - so that will be January 2009 then. By which time I'll be 39. So it's real starting afresh time. I'm not just going for design though. I'm going for the quality of life and hopefully a better education and future for my boy. I'm off to Toronto in 3 weeks to knock on doors to see if I can speed up the process but I think it'll be a hard slog.
Since we made our plans though, I've never felt more invigorated and positive about the future. I don't know if that's the prospect of living somewhere like Canada or just the plans but damn, it feels good. Good luck with your plans terminal.
