halifax is awsome for students, musicians, twenty, thirty somethings with restaurant experience (seriously) and 3d animators and film/tv workers if you got hooked up...but i would not chase big design dreams here unless you're seroiusly independant and or a seriously creative student

Be prepared for considerable expense (if you use an immigration lawyer) plus a 3-5 year application processing time. Incredibly strict entry requirements based on their points system too. I applied in early 2005, cost me £4000, no answer due until late 2008, and I'm not even going anymore anyway :-/

canada is the best. and no matter where you decide to live you will love it. this country has so much to offer that its hard to believe our population is so low.
i lived in calgary for a number of years and it is a great city. a little boring at times. but nice.
vancouver is another story. skiing, beaches, parks - no limit of things to do all yeay round.
jobs? pay? not as good as the east - but who cares when you can go to the beach every day

I don't know about Vancouver, but I agree that places aren't that boring as long as you're up for making an effort to find things to do around the city. People think Ottawa is boring, but it's gotten more entertaining in the past few years, and you can always find something to do if you're up for it.
