Hey camera experts...
What do you think of the 350D?
This a good deal?

Go to dpreview.com forums!
No really, all photography buffs there.

go for the 20D.
Just a tad bit more pricey but 100 times way better.

it al depends what you are looking for.
If you are planning to switch to digital slr, then I say go for it, is a great camera I have it and love it.If you are a pro then get a more expensive body. from what I know is better to have a crappy body and great lenses than the other way around.,

350 is the entry level Canon DSLR.
look at your budget and what you want to use it for.
It's a great camera although a recent magazine compared the Nikon equivelent and gave the Nikon a better score (it's either the N50 or N70)
I have a 350 but wished I got the 30D as it has a few more "pro" features about it.
As Meeklo said..better to buy good lenses as you'll get best results.

I met so many photographers that said the opposite though..
in fact I know at least 3 that have been shooting with nikons their whole life, and recently switched to canon, (meaning that they had to get rid of several lenses as well). This is mainly why I chosed canon over nikon, but again, I guess is a matter or preference, and at my level (very amateur) I don't think it matters any decent entry level slr will work.:)

i agree with you, same reason i chose the 350D
better support for the Canon and you'll probably upgrade in the future to a newer canon so your lenses SHOULD remain compatible

For the most part, you're going to get the same image results from the 350D as you are from the 20D (and the 30D for that matter). It's the same sensor+image combination—the EOS 350D has a slightly smaller sensor (when I say slight, I mean slight) 22.2 x 14.8 mm CMOS sensor (350D) Vs. 22.5 x 15.0 mm CMOS sensor (20 & 30D). The major difference is the material used for the camera bodies (Plastic Vs. Magnesium Alloy) and actual performance enhancements (larger buffer and over all quicker processing). So. You're really looking at a difference in image quality when you jump from the 350D to the 5D. Image quality alone is mostly equivalent among the 350, 20 & 30D.

They're all good cameras. Nikon is good too. I choose Canon because I applaud their commitment to research and development. They lead the digital SLR market by a long shot. Nikon follows (although their systems are good—it truly comes down to preference). Nikon produces richer color strait from the camera; that's about the only pro (I personally) dig about the Nikon systems. But if you're looking at the 350D and up, you're going in the right direction.

I have the 350d, I know nothing about cameras but just thought I'd mention it.

Awesome. Feel free to join in. Here's something to know about your camera Jnr_Madison. It's got a revolutionary sensor+processor combination that all but eliminates noise; resulting in that silky smooth image only a Canon EOS Digital SLR puts out. Tell everyone you know when they see you with your camera.

unless you bump up the ISO then you're into noise country ;)
I have a 5D at work and I've fallen in love with it. I'm skipping the 20/30D when I upgrade and going for a 5D.
The full sensor is just heaven!

hmmm, i was thinking about nikon. waiting for what they will announce coming month.
i like nikno for slr and canon for ultra compact cameras.
info on digital sensor.

350D is a great camera. I have one and absolutely love it. I really don't desire anything more except maybe a faster FPS, and even that I don't really need.
As others have said, the 20D and 30D have better features, but I don't think the actual images they produce will be of such a better quality as to make them worth it. In my opinion the 20D would be spending extra money on features I don't really need. I'd rather use that money to buy some nice lenses.
For those who cite construction differences between 350D and 20D...I actually prefer the 350D because its smaller and more lightweight. Yes, maybe that means its not as durable, but it IS more portable, and that more me means more pictures taken.

"unless you bump up the ISO then you're into noise country ;)"

That's with ANY digital camera (or film for that matter). Blame it on the dynamics creating images with the Camera obscura.
Canon excels and has set the benchmark for CMOS+Processor combo that handles high ISO and still produces images suitable for print. (Obviously directly related to the environment you shoot in—a dark haunted house+ISO 1600+ is going to produce some nice artifacts).
Saying it's "noise country" when referring to ESO 350D and any model UP from there, I would say, is inaccurate.
Of course, you already know this from using the 5D. Don't you.

ESO = EOS.
