That's with ANY digital camera (or film for that matter). Blame it on the dynamics creating images with the Camera obscura.
Canon excels and has set the benchmark for CMOS+Processor combo that handles high ISO and still produces images suitable for print. (Obviously directly related to the environment you shoot in—a dark haunted house+ISO 1600+ is going to produce some nice artifacts).
Saying it's "noise country" when referring to ESO 350D and any model UP from there, I would say, is inaccurate.
Of course, you already know this from using the 5D. Don't you.
