Crouwel, I like how you cite the BBC article as though it presents conclusive evidence. Sorry, but conjecture like this has been popping up in news stories since the late 1800's. In fact, the story has changed surprisinlgy little.

But what's the bottom line here? It is that we are all born with genetic predispositions. Nobody denies this. But a predisposition does not mean we are deterministically locked into a behavior or way of life. There are people born with a genetic predisposition to lie, but they don't throw up their hands and say, "This is just how I am! So that's what I'm gonna do." No, we live in a fallen world which is subject to the ravages of sin. We are all subject to it's deleterious effects. But we seek to rise above and overcome.

I don't give a shit what ever the fuck you guys are talking about or whatever personal vendetta you have between each other.
But that article is a suprious piece of shite and the science is even more questionable. Correlation is not cause.

Fantastic, still no cure for cancer though...

That's interesting. If being gay is genetic, then is it a defect, or by design?
I can't see much use for homosexuality in nature. Tough one..

Bottlerocket, you raise a good point. We see is this tendency, in general, of groups, the media etc... to want to eliminate individual responsibility. There is movement to want to blame everything on genetic determinism. The problem is that the evidence just isn't there. It's the old Nature vs. Nurture issue. Is the Nature part a factor? Sure. Is it deterministic? No.
You'll find way more conclusive studies which demonstrate that the way a child is raised and his/her relationship with the father figure, affects sexual orientation.

I dont get it, if your god designed every living creature to his blueprint;, why'd he predispose some to sin whilst immunising others? That shit ain't fair.

WildFlower, if you raise a theological argument, you had better be prepared for a theological response...
1. If the God we are talking about is the God of the Bible, then the doctrine of original sin explains the flaws in nature and the entropy we observe. Things decay and die. This is the deliterious effects of sin.
2. The implications of this are that things now are not as they have always been.

yeah i am talking theolgically.
So as a species we're all decaying? My kids, my kids kids, and my kids kids kids, will be more wretched, evil, and decayed from God's original plan - yet will still be subject to the exact same divine judgement?
he's a nasty piece of work that god of abraham

flagellum, is it a coincidence that your opinions line up exactly with Jerry Falwell or something "designed"?
You constantly say you aren't "religious" but your opinions line right up with many evangelicals.
You think being gay is a choice, you reject evolution etc.
- flagellum0
WildFlower, your theology is a bit challenged.
What does the sin problem which we got ourselves into have to do with God's judgement being unjust?
He's actually quite merciful in making the provision he did in Jesus Christ. Who died for you and me.

hey flagellum, no need for sly insults. I'm geniunely curious of your world view.
You admitted there is some genetic disposition to sin (i.e lying) which i agree, lots of studies have shown genetics as the cause for social "maladies". You then say, this is as a natural part of the world we're gradually departing from God's original plan bla bla bla, entropy in nature.
I think it's a valid point you have to make clear to me - we're judged on the same criteria as the children of Adam, even though we're defective copies of copies of copies of copies??
does not compute!
please to explain
:)

Lol..if its in the Wikipeadia, I must be true!!!
- flagellum0
Is that supposed to be news, Mal? Everybody knows that animals can display homosexual behavior. Are you suggesting we are just animals with no line of demarcation from the rest of the animal kingdom? If so, you had better be consistent about other animal behaviors that should be "Ok" for us to do.
