And the things I'm planning to buy soon (and that means when my insurance check from my apartment being robbed comes in)
Boss DD-20 Giga-Delay:

Man, check out this before you buy that:http://line6.com/tonecore/echoPa…
it's one of the most amazing and versatile sounding pedals I have heard...

ebon - I got the same guitar from my wife for XMas. I love it. It's the 4th or 5th acoustic I've had. It would make a great starter guitar. The solid top gives it a nice sound for an inexpensive guitar. Good bang for the buck.

Thanks TheTick. I didn't know about that one from Line6. I know a few people who use their green metal one with the four buttons, but had not seen this one.
I have a DOD delay currently, but want to upgrade to something that has stereo panning. I like that the DD-20 has stored settings you can switch through with the second pedal.

vespa, will post up some of my music when it's ready. Still got a long way to go!
I can't wait to get home and do some more recording. I'm working on a solo piano piece from the ET soundtrack (the end credits)
no really I am.
It's one of the most challenging pieces I've ever learned but it sounds awesome!

It sounds great to me....but i really have nothing to compare it to so its nice to hear it from someone who knows.
Now i just need to learn to play it =)

TheTick,
Asthetically (and I know that shouldn't matter) those Line6 pedals are UGLY. Look like something out of Robocop.

-----I agree - ugly as sin (I bought the Ottofilter - auto wah pedal) but feature wise and soundwise they are amazing - and built like tanks - heaviest pedals I have evercome across..chew through batteries though - need to get the AC adapter
- mg330
I've got a Godlyke chain of power cables, works pretty well, only use batteries on two things because I need an extension for the power cable.

I've been using rack effects for so long =- but I sold all mine off, got a nice Line6 amp recently and rebought a few pedals - the MXR Phase 90, an auto wah and the digitech whammy..and I use an Ibanez electric - one of the higher end RG model series, a cheap OLP as a vackup and have an Ovation acoustic..mostly play hard rock/metal stuff...

Ohhhhhh...
It's okay man, bottom line is that everyone should use what they want. But these digital modelling amps, Line6 and others, I guess I'm just more of a purist and like less options so I can tailor my setup with less choices.
It always drove me nuts to see new guitarists, teenagers, getting these modelling amps.
Spend all their time fiddling with the sound without figuring out how to play.I realize it must be nice to turn a knob and go from a Twin Reverb to a Marshall to an AC30...but it's not real. I'd rather get one amp and have less chance something break. All this digital stuff crammed into an amp, above vibrating speakers and such...something is bound to come loose eventually.
My Fender amps are so f'ing loud, barely ever have them above 3. I've had them repaired a few times, and one of them has had all the circuits, transistors, etc. covered in some kind of sealant to keep them from vibrating.
I wouldn't trade these amps for much else right now, because I really can't afford more expensive stuff like Orange or Hiwatt or a bigger Vox.It's also nice to have a setup that I never see anyone else with. My band is a three piece, so going with a stereo guitar amp setup, each amp mic'd and panned left and right, reverb on full, and the blend of clean and gain means we sound like there are 5 guitarists on stage. I don't see many three piece bands around here doing the stereo amp thing.

haha brilliant! look forward to it
i just finished a new track last night, don't you love it when you wake up the next morning humming your own little riff?
You Can't Hum Design.
- skt0
You can make design hum though. Mine stinks half the time.

I have a nice marshall valve amp but I also have a line6 Pod. The pod is really good for travelling and getting a good sound at low volumes.
But I agree these little kids who have line6 amps and widdle away with rubbish fizzy sounds. If you ever put them on stage through a marshall stack they'd have no clue.
Some giys don't realise that playing live at volume is completely different from playing at home in your room.
This guy I know played a gig through a multi effects board that he'd set up at home. But with the band around him with all the different frequencies his guitar sound was lost. It sucked hard. But I didn't have the heart to tell this deluded guy.
- vespa0
hey mg33, explain your stereo amp setup more?
also, i have an orange rockerverb and musicians (usually male guitarists) always ask me if i "like it" in that tone of voice that says i shouldn't really and if i were a REAL guitarist i'd know that it just looks good and actually it sounds shit. but i think it sounds great! am i deluded/paranoid?
- MrRemote0
Just before the holidays I bought myself a new archtop that looks like this.
If your just starting I'd take a couple of lessons. If your a visual person (and I'm sure you are being on here) I think it speeds up the learning curve alot to see someone that knows what there doing play what your trying to learn.
On a side note, the first song I learnt to play was "wipeout"

since this is a guitar thread I thought I'd post this. It's been on here before but it is quite funny and oddly addictive:
- mg330
Baskerville,
Totally agree. Once my band started practicing alot, I really had to change my style a bit.
Being in an apartment playing at a low volume, I always played pretty hard on the strings with a pick.
But having really loud amps, I was doing the same thing and breaking strings every now and then.
Really had to retrain myself to play softer and rely on the volume to do it's thing.
- vespa0
ps baskerville if you ever tell me that my love for my hissy boss japanesey phaser sound is delusional i will bite you. also i hate the sound of a marshall stack.
- Baskerville0
Vespa, I've played a few Orange amps and never got on with them.
The clean sound is alright but they are too crunchy when you wind them up. Give me a marshall any day.
What I really want is a Cornford. They're hand wired and soldered and have the best tone. They make a 6Watt studio amp that sounds amazing.
Their 30Watt amp will blow any 100W transistor amp away.
- Baskerville0
on the subject of amps. If I was serious about recording I'd have one amp for recording and one for live.
There is absolutely no sense in miking up a marshall stack at full volume in a studio. Even though lots of bands have done it.
Vespa, how can you say you don't like the sound of a marshall stack. Not even one of the old Plexi's?
That means you don't like Hendrix's tone which I think is one of the greatest guitar tones of all time. And that was way before all this digital modelling shit.
