crap. some of the worst design ive seen in a while.

Too much going on. It's like they have tried to squeeze everything in their image bank on there.
Just a nice picture of a hall with thier set up in would of been fine, and far cleaner. I hope the sound isn't as clumsy and noisey as the ads they produce!! CLARITY
One last thing – those 2 images of people at the bottom. Whats up with the greyed background?? and the type running over the top??

The "boss" looks like he's got a Darth Vader silhouette behind him. That's obviously not the worst part of this "advertisement" though. Basically everything's already been said about it.
The real problem here is that the management thinks this is good. I used to work for a company who loved that kind of design – if you can even call that design. If I wanted to design something clean, clear, and with a concept, they'd modify and rape it beyond recognition and thus my work got pretty much thrown out the window. And then of course the upper management loved it because that's all they ever get to see is bad design. If the management told my superiors at my old job that "the design sucks" then they still would have blamed it on me even though they raped and pillaged it for all it was worth.
end rant.
You know what I'm talking about, man? The REAL problem isn't the design or the designer, but the sucker in management who thinks it's good.

i want to cry . . . . .
its friday . . . and my weekend is ruined to this piece of shit.
- clerk0
ouch, might have worked in theory but definitely not in practise.

Christian Sound Productions Company ?
Hmmm, phenomenal.

I wouldn't know where to start.. It's so.. I don't know.. Anti aesthetic.. thats it!

very 80s (which would suggest a very dated and out of tune company)
the focus of the piece is the imagery which while descriptive of what the company does, it does not say (visually) why this company is above or better than it's competitors. a good starting point would be to focus on the line 'it's time to be heard' which is a strong statement, and could be a good starting point for the piece. the bottom right text (services) also needs to be more prominent.
and last but not least, the visuals do not suggest anything to do with catering for christian events (if that's their market.
- nessdog0
hahah that's soooooo bad it's funny.
- fifty500
I'm not sure if the target market is Christian music events, so why bother saying that you're a Christian company with Christian employees. Does anybody really give a shit if you're Christian if all they want is for their concert to sound good? It's not like the power of Christ is gonna make the bass line kick.

You broke the #1 rule: less is more.

i haven't read any other responses but here is my analysis.
first, yes you're right, it's horrible.
from the top:
- chrome type... seriously?- ten thumbnailed photos too small for anyone to really see. 1 or 2 should be able to get the message across, it's an ad not a photo album. And those faded edges just add insult to injury.
- soundboard background, that could work if there weren't all the little ass photos all over it. it's a stack of busy on top of a red bed of busy.
- dual, random, b&w towers... what the fuck does that even mean? and again the faded edges thing.
- sound waves from the logo... again this could work but it's battling against the rest of the shit.
- chrome logo... seriously?
- body copy. 1st off please tell the dumbass that I know that his 9th grade typing teacher taught him "2 spaces after the period" but he lives in the future now and computers will adjust the space at the end of the sentence... 1 space.
- body copy continued... why the fuck would he wrap that last sentence below the photo?
- "It's time to be heard!" What? What? I can't hear anything because I've gone blind!
- the lines at the bottom coming out of the logo: these are supposed to be some high-tech mofos and dude puts a rabbit ear antenna on the ad???
dang.
- wilbur0
true its pretty terrible, but it would be interesting to see what you would do, at the mo its just a big easy target...

I agree with most everything above, gradient type & feathered photos = bad.
What are the two bad images - is that the Sears Tower being consructed? hahaha
Sound board background isn't bad but the shockwaves over it make it way too busy.
The most bothersome of all to me though are the two photos at the bottom, you can see the edges of these photos that are suppposted to be feathered and then a black halo around the guys head - must have got a photoshop haircut.
- mirrorball0
Looks too mid90's for me to be honest liquid, to much feathering of pics and 'tron lines'
Have you a link to what you did to compare the two?
- kelpie0
All the aesthetic and technical points have been made, but suffice to say - I wouldn't deal with that company, they look far too amateur and fly-by-night to me, on the evidence of their promo quality.
I agree with Wilbur though, is this a client you've had in teh past? do you have something to compare it too? might work better for your crit purposes...
- liquid0
background:: close friend since 12...asked me who I would ask that would agree with me... which would be all of you...
last time I did stuff for him til now I would say I was pretty amateurish myself..in 2001 for him when I didnt know much.... I do work for him as a favor....
here is a postcard I did last spring for him.... istockphoto stuff because I do it for free.... and secondly... he loves the chrome so I at least updated what the other guy originally did....
after everything said here I am hating what I did...but at least I am posting as a point of reference that I can do somewhat better than what I am complaining about...
I wasn't around to do it so he got another friend....thats who did the mag/flyer ad....
- Soler0
repurpose teh 2nd link you just posted into an ad. That at least leaves something to the imagination. Noone wants to see all those dude's mugshots in an ad.
not to mention that the ad is just designed poorly, from production skill to overall layout, concept, etc.
You want to show Just a hint of what's avail from the co., to spark interest. my 2 cents.
