this phenomenon is typical for social and political isolation. and not limited to the suburbs of paris. it happens in all this sort of banlieus (sp?) around the world if they're left unattended and ignored by society and politics.

(Nov 3 05, 13:04)I understood your meaning. No offence taken.

it goes back to what you said Cactus. It's like, well no sh*t, it's been going on for a while and then sh*t hits the fan, which should be no surprise to anyone, because people get tired of having less than others and living in crap conditions. Human nature to me.
yeah and what Crouwel said too. Don't you have the same problems in Satellite city or whatever they call that region in NE...?
- i_monk0
Angry mobs don't think or care, they just react. Didn't the same thing happen in the LA riots? You don't go around thinking "I'm going to show the government what for!" you go around thinking "I'm so angry I'm going to tip that car over!"
This could happen just about anywhere you concentrate generations of poor people excluded from mainstream society either because of language or religion or just poverty itself.
It has nothing to do with "France sucks, Libya rules!" either, jazxass.

It's really stupid and counter-productive to pollute the discourse with charges of racism.
It one of the reasons why the problem has been festering for 30 years.

i_monk, may the fleas of a thousand camels infest your armpits.
k?

if they hate France so much they should simply go back to their prehistoric country. nothing is EVER good enough for some scum on this earth.

i always find riots hard to stomach - how is destroying your local businesses going to solve anything, aside from venting anger?
i also know that area and lots of people there depend on the state. so they're both opressed by and dependent on the same system?
- todelete__20
you have to think that now in day 8 they are just burning shit to burn shit and be cool.
then when the wake up in the morning they realize their moms car went up in flames then bitch to the insurance companies and government about not stopping it.
bollshit.

people, don't generalize. the riots are now coordinated and encouraged amongst youths in different suburbs by means of internet communication. both french and immigrant youths are guilty of the riots. most have no jobs and little future.
you - in fact most of us - can rationalize this from our safe homes. they can't.
you - in fact most of us - can not crawl into the mind of these youths and that is crucial to understanding and dealing with the problem.
in the end it's about psychology: pressure, angst, depression, oppression, anger, fear, isolation, irritation etcetera etcetera.
we are all so easy to judge people by just a few facts.

"most have no jobs and little future"
in a country where education is completely free of charge to residents and immigrants even while they're on the dole.
look, i know they're having a hard time because of this and that, but i can't justify the destruction of the businesses of those from the same neighbourhood who work hard and try to make something out of themselves.
- Crouwel0
as i was saying, don't judge. i am not justifying nor condemning this.
there simply have to be more to this in order to drive these kids to do this.
remember that many schooled people still have little chance on the market, for various, and sometimes obvious reasons.

frustration is key.
- fadeproof0
exactly - they burn shit down, then complain to local and state gov. to help them out - they have no jobs in their native land, so they say, "hey, lets go to Europe! we can live like leeches off of the government, get housing and food, and not have to do anything but put our hands out and wait to get fed!"
- Crouwel0
" they have no jobs in their native land, so they say, "hey, lets go to Europe! we can live like leeches off of the government, get housing and food, and not have to do anything but put our hands out and wait to get fed!""
well for some this is true.
they probably did not do anything in their native country and had no or little education when they came to Europe. But Europe accepted them and is therefore responsible to help these people turn into decent civillians. but this theory is completely against American philosophy, which is based on a meritocratic ideal.
Let's not forget that the French authorities are highly divided about how to handle this situation; it simply tells us how complicated and structural this problem is.
- -sputnik-0
sorry, last i checked crouwel it is no government's responsibility to "turn people into decent civilians"
whatever happend to personal responsibility??
- JazX0
too many variables, but I agree with -sputnik- and kOna for the most part. But hey, you know // I'm a racist for having an opinion
