I like the looks and the specs...

    Thanx

i don't have it but the S60R is a really good car. excellent engine.

  • myobie0

a bit more pricey as well, is it worth the extra dough?

  • Point50

My buddy has one and it's pretty nice. I like the car. But we call it the vulva.

  • jocks0

A buddy got an R - in fact, he was carjacked in it just 3 months ago. (long story)

The T5 is overpriced, almost as quick with the 2.5T but with awesome gas milage instead. Not a very inspiring drive (feels like its 'floating'), but pretty and safe. Tiny backseat and trunk, passengers get grumpy after having to hold their legs up on longer trips... and it's getting quite old. If I were shopping for one, I'd consider the new S40 instead. About the same size but newer.

  • vwsung18t0

i guess if you're not into performance and stuff and just want an entry-level, safe midesize sedan, you won't really need it to shell out the extra money. like if it's gonna be a commuter car. if that's the case, i would buy a certified-used volvo. volvos depreciate in value. you can save a lot of money that way.

don't rule out saabs either. they are really cheap with all the discounts they're giving out like the new employee discount program. the cars themselves are kinda dated, but they are very reliable and the viggen are pretty quick. saabs also get overshadowed as being one of the safest cars on the road by volvos.

  • myobie0

    i hadn't seen the s40

    i like it

im looking at saabs and audis too...

    a4 and 92x and 93

Unless you enjoy having to pony up for a new turbo every other month, I strongly suggest something other than a Saab. And when GM files Saab banrupt in a year (and they will, believe me), we can talk about value plunging!

  • vwsung18t0

no you won't have to get a new turbo every other month. that sounds like an exaggeration. turbo saabs and v6 saabs has had a reliable history in teh US. maybe it's different in Europe although i thought they're all made in sweden.
it does however seem like saab isn't going to be around much longer. poor sales and lack of support from GM, who loves buying brands, taking their technology, neglecting them, and dropping them, has the swedish government trying to buy out saab from gm so that saab employees can have jobs.

anyway, the 9-2x is a great bargain if you like the car. i am pretty sure you can get a brand new one for 19k after all te rebates and discounts.

  • jocks0

They haven't built saabs in sweden for decades, very little actually is swedish in them. 9-3's are rebadged Opel Vectras (the horror). the new 9-7x is a souped up Trailblazer, still with US spec handling package (yiech). The 9-2x is some sort of us-market-only ancient subaru with saab emblems, i dont know and i don't want to know. (they seem to spare us the worst pieces of crap over here, thank god). The only saab that is actually saab-only is the 10 year old (15 years old if you count the research period) 9-5, which is insanely unreliable and comes with a ketchup turbo effect as if you had 400 hp and zero torque. Again, piece of crap I wouldn't want if it was thrown at me. I'd rather walk.

And every other car is a saab of some sort around my neck of the woods, and I could give you horror stories about saabs that would outnumber the amount of total broadcasts in the pvn. So please don't.

  • myobie0

so, it's volvo or audi then...

    thanx

  • vwsung18t0

you consider a 4-5 year old platform ancient? the 9-2x is a impreza wrx with a saab front, STi steering column, and better interior materials. it's still a great buy IMO.

i'm not sure what you're talking about no torque, one of the most popular complaints with these cars is the amount of torque steer from too much torque. i guess you mean the turbo lag in the turbo cars.

and 9-3 and 9-5 for US are built in sweden and austria. look it up.

  • jocks0

Wrong. Neither the 9-3 or the 9-5 are built in Trollhattan (the swedish facility). The chassis are tightened, the interior is being put together and the paint is being put on. Very little is 'made'. The major work is done in Rüsselheim and when 90% of the work is completed, they're being transported to sweden by boat. Extremely unhealthy for their economy (obviously), and there's been a major debate about this shipment in swedish press because they're brought here not because they have to, but because they don't want to lose whatever little swedish 'touch' they have so that americans can claim they drive swedish vehicles, when - in fact- they aren't. And apparently they were right - as of 31st of december 2005, ALL work will be done in Rüsselheim, leaving GM's poor child without a soul. (and swedish factory workers unemployed)

I don't consider a 4-5 year old car ancient in general, I consider all Subaru's ancient in technology and if I was to save a car company heading towards bankruptcy, Subaru would be the last shoulder to lean on.

Yes, turbo lag. Exactly. These Saab turbos had insane lag when they were introduced in the Saab 9000 in 1986, and -ironically- they still do since its the same engine with a few tweaks to please the euro car pollution idiots and other treehuggers.

  • tenpointtwo0

    Why only volvo or Audi?

Why can't you get a BMW? Or Inifiniti (if u don't like Ze Germans) More bang for your buck. Much better drive imo. Volvo's feel like you're riding on air, which is fine for some. but there are others that actually like to feel like they're driving a car.

  • vwsung18t0

well, no one car is made 100% from one factory. and it is sad that all those factory workers will be out of jobs. from the articles i've read, the government wanted to step to keep the company going and the workers keep their jobs. it's all an outsider's view, nothing from within sweden. i can't imagine the tax getting higher because of that if you say it's already pretty bad.

subaru's technology as far as their AWD system and boxer engine may not be anything new and groundbreaking but it is proven in performance and reliability. not everyone needs the latest and greatest. i still wouldn't call it ancient. it's like calling the quattro system ancient because it's 25 years old.
GM decided to get a little boost in saab sales by using the impreza. at the time of its release, the impreza wrx was selling very well. it definitely wasn't the last shoulder to lean on. GM expects a lot of sales from the 9-7x since it's an suv but now suvs sales have been going down. nothing is going right for GM and Saab.

and as for turbo lag, not every engine is a VAG 1.8t or 2.0t

  • JazX0

    that's a fine car

  • jocks0

"and as for turbo lag, not every engine
    is a VAG 1.8t or 2.0t"

    Ok, that is true =)

Although after having driven the 9-5 Aero, which has a lag to the state of lunacy, you would have to be very patient and calculate your driving very well. It's not a matter of 10ths of seconds before it kicks in, it is *actually* seconds which is enormous, not to mention dangerous. That is a combination of an 1986 engine and the worst gearbox in the world. They never worked well apart, and if you combine the two like in the Aero model, two wrongs make one hell of a wrong.

I still think the idea of a Subaru Impreza is really sad. Anybody can, with lightweight low-class material, build a quick budget sedan. Because that's what it is, a budget car whose only argument is that it has variable valve timing and vehicle dynamics control. (the latter is simply to prevent wheel spin, which is ironical since its an AWD and they dont spin by nature unless the construction sucks!

There are two brands within GM that wants to come off as luxurious. One is doing their best to wash off the pimp ring to it it's been having since the late 70s. The other one is Saab. If you want to compete with BMW, Audi and MB, please don't base your "luxury" sedan on a budget ricer and claim its swedish. It's failure without even having started. Come on GM. Think.

  • designerror0

pick a S40 or A4/S4, they are both sweet ride with a little tweaking ..

To hell with the overprices bimmers , benz and what not!

And I belive Saab is already in hell and have been hanging there for a long time so dont bother going there...

  • vwsung18t0

yeah coming from a 1.8t or 2.7t or 2.0t, the saab turbos will feel very unrefined. it's more like the engine was put

vehicle dynamics control is more like ESP than it is a basic traction control.

saab doesn't really compete against bmw, audi, m-b here. more like against volvo but they've been getting so many GM discounts that they've priced themselves against VW now.

  • tenpointtwo0

    To hell with Benz!?!?

I am the proud driver of a retro-styled throwback benz.

    (read: it's a '91 beast)

  • todelete__20

i was looking at the same cars.

    audi a4 3.o
    infinity g35 sedan
    bmw 330c
    saab 93 vector
    volvo s40

after pricing them all, comparing engines, options and performance i bought a chrysler 300c and have since smoked the living hell out of every middle aged man who has pulled up along-side in their higher priced bmws and mercedes benz and volvo.

    so far.

    (3) bmw 5 series
    (2) bmw 6 series
    (1) audi a4 3.o quattro
    (2) volvo s40
    (1) volvo s60
    (3) various meredes 500 and 600 sedans
    (2) mercedes sl class roadster
    (1) svt mustang cobra

i don't even drive it abusive. these guys pull up next to me and want to go. i don't get it. i thought for sure guys/girls in suped up hondas and toyotas would want to go but they've been more than polite on the road.

i get about 20mpg average and if i'm crusing for a long period of time on a highway i get about 28-30mpg. i handles like a nimble sportscar and has a better turning radius then my last... uh... sportscar did.

ultimately, get what you want and what you can afford.

    good luck.
