superbaka, yes, individual rights end when it comes to whether a human lives or dies... in my book. Is that so radical? Sometimes it's better to supercede individual rights for the holistic benefit of a collective people. A culture that embraces subjective truth in matters like these is destined to go the route of ancient Rome.

To all in Rome who are loved by God and called to be saints: Grace and peace to you from God our Father and from the Lord Jesus Christ.

Discipler,
How does it benefit society having a large amount of people hooked up to machines indefinitely in a vegetative state? Is a harmful message sent if we allow people be self-determinant about their own quality of life?People should be allowed to die.
- superbaka0
first, how is scientific data subjective truth?
and yes, its very bad. the right to our life is the very basic requirement for all other rights. how can one own a bank account, a house, or our ideas as creatives, when we can't own our bodies?
and mimio - thats the whole point. the republicans and insurance companies drool over a future where they can force people to stay hooked up and paying huge amounts of money to them.

"People should be allowed to die."
are you impling these are mrs. shiavo's wishes?
and who can vouch for her sanity in this case, much less her state of agony? perhaps, as one noted earlier, she's in a blissfull state of euphoria.
i'm not leaning toward any particular side, just testing your argument.

//My personal opinion is she should stay hooked up to the feeding tube until her medicaid benefits no longer cover that then she should starve to death//
- discipler0
Mimio, no it would not be of benefit to society. And I'm not arguing that people should not be self-determinant about their own quality of life. To me self-determination about one's quality of life is seperate from issues dealing with the loss or preservation of life, like abortion and euthanasia. The issue is, should we be able to take away the lives of those in a condition like Terri, who are not brain dead. She can't make this decision for herself.
Again... it's a terribly difficult and sad situation.

wow, too much to read here, but here's what i think. I think they should let her die, but not by fucking starving the poor woman to death for two weeks. Give her a lethal injection or something. Where's Dr. Kevorkian when you need him?

for the sake of argument, let's assume, mrs shiavo is in fact in agonizing pain, and has been for the last 15 years.
the question here is, who decides the victims fate? the govt, the family, spouse, children, the victim him/her self, or a combination of any of the above? what makes any candidate(s) more eligable than any other(s)?

Dr. K. Ohh damn. Hes in the basement taking care of a few people.
- SteveJobs0
"her legal guardian should make the decision if there is no will. "
why, because we've created laws that says that's 'right'. you're basis your idea of what should happen on the ideal that our governments laws are without flaw and can account for any situation.
who can vouch for the guardians sanity, if there is one?

I am confused:
"I told her if she was ready, to take a ride to get some breakfast, and she gave a great smile," he said."
Is she responsive to stimulation or completely comatose?
If she is an any way responsive...then I actually think it would be wrong to stop feeding her

note to all:
please don't take disciplers view of this subject as the view that all christians have on this topic.
note to discipler:
no disrespect intended, i just wanted to throw that out there because I don't agree with you. it seems easy for people to assume that one christian speaks for all - which should not be the case.
