looks nice, although that "s" is bugging the hell out of me. not sure why. i think it's the angle of the tilt or something
- DutchBoy0
yes, me too.. the top of it doesn't connect well with the bottom yet.
any suggestions on the S?
- nessdog0
Nice...
not sure about the 'y' of 'by the' though.... It doesn't sit right.
- lvl_130
i was trying to think of some way you could reuse the f in some way and replace the s. you know, like ttake out the two cross lines or something...but that might actually look worse because then it will be all gangly and long. hmm...
- lvl_130
i'm sure you've already tried this, but what about just straightening the s so it sits upright. akward with the rest?
- DutchBoy0
haha, lvl_ .. we think alike.
been there, done that.
*scratches head
- DutchBoy0
yea i could try and rotate it..

"by the" is not marrying well with the rest of the wordmark, but i like the direction of the shaping on the bottom letters

I would also worry about losing the "by the" when the logo is reduced in size. It seems a little too contrived, but it's challenging when the name is so long. I guess if anything I would treat the type simply by creating a wordmark and create an icon or graphic that would convey the idea to sit with the type. But that's just my lame opinion.

like it... feel it just reads "film sea" tho... perhaps dropping sea below film and bring the small "by the" type over to the right a bit, connecting it more to sea than film, ya know?

Just thinking about what Snuggles said.....
I tend to agree, the type is nice but perhaps simplify.
Try a roll of film curling like a wave??

The letter treatment is beginning to work. There is a lack of continuity between the letter forms in “film” and the forms in “sea.” “Film” as a word has some strenght, less the lowercase “m” which is lacking in relation to the other three letters.
“Sea” is emphasizing the disparate angles in the letterforms, which has no relation to the word “film.”
Between the two, the “F” has a lot going for it in terms of relationship to the idea of the sea, and originality in the letterform and mark. Perhaps a re-draft of the word “Sea” would help here.
And, like ohter posts, I feel “by the” is supplemental, kind of tagged on in a sloppy way—and will surely have problems when reduced.
Good start.

Yeah the "by the" just doesn't feel right, however i like it in general.

thoughts:
-don't let "by" touch the "m"
-maybe try an unitalicized version of "by the"
-straighten the "s" the "e" and "a" the word looks like it is falling apart
-and "sea" looks like it needs to be brought up a little closer to the baseline
-but i luv that f

" I guess if anything I would treat the type simply by creating a wordmark and create an icon or graphic that would convey the idea to sit with the type "
that's exactly what is going to happen, mr snuggles!
i am currently creating a vector mermaid.. which has to fit the logotype, but can also be used separatly or even in a pattern... etc.
- DutchBoy0
"Try a roll of film curling like a wave??"
absolute no-go.
that is just the idea i want to move away from.
- DutchBoy0
thx so far all! keep the critique coming!
i am thinking of leaving the s-e-a positioned like that.. as it brings the necessary flair to it.. the s, e and a are dancing or making love. :)
- glenroy0
mmm... s-e-a making love...
- mr_snuggles0
OK, but I meant, I wouldn't even try to further reinforce your concept by playing with the type, maybe keep a stylized "F" but then just use a nice well suited "nautical" face. You could have the mermaid (if you were serious about that) resting/intertwined on/around the "S". I would also move away from dropping the size of the "by the"
Even better would be to anchor the mermaid (no pun intended) to the "F" and use a stylised "S" so film and sea would have more predominence, and you could still get away with keeping "by the" relatively in proportion to the rest. I guess I'm just finding the type as it is, very awkward, but I'd be keen to see any other avenues you may started to explore.
Again, these are tactics I always end up falling back on, thus my logo folio is so 1 dimensional, and I'm sure this post made very little sense!
