"I have felt like this before at other jobs and have gotten over it once I moved on."
---------
There's a pattern and it appears only one common denominator

if you were coming from a place of sincerely caring about the software co. i'd be proud of you - but since this is just a revenge move - i'm not impressed with you and would never want to work with you.
oh, and it's too late to say you do sincerely care. your motives are too clear.

I've worked at places with very disgruntled staff, always complaining and I've thought about this a lot. My conclusion is that whatever your complaint, you either take your salary, stay put and put up with it, OR if the situation is utterly unacceptable, leave and let them hang themselves. There's nothing keeping you there. You're talented, presumably..? You'll find another job. If your employer is behaving immorally, or illegally, then whistleblowing may be in order -- but continuing to take their money AND whistlblowing on them would be morally suspect, anyway.

i'm just curious... what do they do that gets you and your workers so riled?
i've had bad bosses that ran places in a way that the workers hated them too. i still just don't believe in revenge... think tactfully

...I'm curious too?
Yes, think tactfully.
Also, think tactically!

Here's one example. My co-worker (who's on this site too "pufeta") creates some beautiful brochures, ads and posters. My boss though, takes the samples to the client and the client loves them. Since my boss has no communication skills the client calls the office so they can deal with pufeta directly. My boss finds out tells the client that pufeta really didnt design them and that they should deal with him. He then tells pufeta in front of all of us that if you ever talk to a client again you're out of here.
Is that bad or am I overreacting???

come on apegrope. THINK.
you can do it.

Dude, it's like this. Half of us on here work for people we don't care for. Economics always fucks the little guy....
You can't let the shit burn you up, it'll eat you alive man. Let it go.
It could be worse:
You could be on a dirt floor in Thailand putting together shoes for Nike. Making $1.50 and hour.

in that situation, did you ever consider the fact that many bosses (rightfully) cover their own asses with clients?
all too often, a designer forms an agency, hires other designers to work on his hard won accounts, and then a designer decides to screw the boss and take all the clients away and go out on his own with them, because the clients have come to like the designer and their work.
your boss sounds shady, but he might have a legitimate reason to want to be the only one dealing directly with the client! its not unheard of to protect client relationships.

"Bottom line is this:
A little scrub like me gets for once to be on top and hit them where it hurts!! "that's not the bottom line, but that kind of approach will ensure that you're a "scrub" who never gets "to be on top".
you need to grow up, ApeGrope. what you're talking about is an act of spite, not a top-versus-bottom battle of the ages.
- pylbug0
"That whole evil comes back to you crap is superstitious nonsense!"
not necessarily. as a person who acts vengefully and spitefully, you make yourself more vulnerable to those who are better at being vengeful and spiteful than you are. you don't have to believe it; there's no "faith" necessary.
there's no way for you to "win" by seeking revenge. return your Kill Bill DVD to the video store and start dealing with the reality of the industry in which you've chosen to work.

I knew a guy whose boss got audited for not only pirated software, but he was paying half the "employees" under the table. Got audited, company is still in business but the guy i knew lost his job. "couldn't afford him". I don't think he's been in the design work world since.

has anyone actually turned someone in to BSA or known someone who did? what do they do? storm your studio and confiscate PCs?
- bartosz0
first off, i couldn't get through the whole thread because i didn't wanna hear more crybabies say "no, don't be a taddle tale".
my advice, fuck them over hard! i believe i speak for all the jerks in the world when i say that. and being a large jerk myself who likes to exploit people when i can, i wouldn't waste a second in turning their asses in.
yes, maybe i'm a jerk because i'm jealous of everyone else in the world, and i can go on and on and use all of the theories you can throw at me. or maybe i just like being a jerk. i don't know... but what i do know is this: i bought all of my software for myself at home and i'm sure many of you others have as well. some of you may have pirated copies, and that's fine with me. but when you're running a business and you don't wanna buy the software for yourself because you're a selfish bastard who cares more about money than anything else, then you should get your dues.
FUCK 'EM!!!
do it

The client may have thought that going directly to pufeta would be more efficient but in fact, the client was guilty of a breach of protocol. Your employer blew up abut it, sure, and it certainly sounds as though HE overreacted (being somewhat insecure, I shouldn't wonder) but it is completely appropriate for him to protect his client relationship. He could have handled it better, that's all.
- _salisae_0
don't mean to not be loving. just seems freakin obvious that the boss would want to cover his ass.
my theory:
apegrope is in love the girl who designed the brochure. she's mad cus she got her feelings hurt and apegrope wants to be the man and get back at the boss for her.
LOVERS!
