in that situation, did you ever consider the fact that many bosses (rightfully) cover their own asses with clients?
all too often, a designer forms an agency, hires other designers to work on his hard won accounts, and then a designer decides to screw the boss and take all the clients away and go out on his own with them, because the clients have come to like the designer and their work.
your boss sounds shady, but he might have a legitimate reason to want to be the only one dealing directly with the client! its not unheard of to protect client relationships.
