somebody flipped a u-turn and now I can't tell who was saying that a web designer doesn't need to know HTML/CSS...
- brandelec0
it was plizo, i told him to throw it in reverse for thirst, and he did, what a booger
- nicora20
hehe
- plizo0
Yep threw it in reverse.. and kept thist post on the top.. so I can be respected... lol
oh wait... acually made out to look like a fool... let me eat my shorts now...

I kind of see what Plizo is saying. I don't really consider myself a 'web designer' though. I come from a print background and now I mess around with flash.
However my roommate is a pretty talented designer and my other roommate is an insanly talented programmer. They just finished the designer roommates website, and the programmer roommate is having a hell of a time getting it to work straight on different platforms. So I think it would be rather difficult for any designer who 'knows how to assemble in HTML and CSS' to finish this site.
I do agree that to call yourself a web designer you need to learn at least the basics, I just think there are some projects where it might be way out of a designers realm to put it together with HTML and CSS.
Carry on with whipping young Plizo.

he had an epiphany mid-thread it appears?
- iDp0
honestly I also never had a desire to learn HTMl or CSS until this thread. But again I'm not really a web designer. Guess its time to start stealing the roommates CSS books eh?
- plizo0
Brandelec you owe me 10 bucks.. your wrong. And nice pics on your site... is that done in HTML/CSS??..... that must of took a long time.... lol

Web designers should know the basics of HTML & Flash. Thats all.
No fucking PHP or SQL or Bullshit like that.
Perhaps a tad of action script and an inkling of CSS but nothing drastic.A web designer is an artist who only needs to know his medium's limitations.
Once in my old office on London there was a power cut. We all stopped work on our macs and started chatting and laughing. Our creative director walked in, threw a load of paper and crayons on a desk, and said "get back to work"
I rest my case...

a professional should know more than the 'basics' of his profession....

I say the more you know, the more marketable you are. I basically do web, photoshop flash html css php but am now teaching myself more traditional print design tools like indesign etc. life is an ongoing chance to keep learning and developing more skills. it keeps me young to learn about new things also. my suggestion is learn all you can, you only go around once.

Creativity is not governed by code.
duh
come on people.
load of nerds you lot are...

what's your point chip?
