Just heard from mechanic, he's 99% sure that my SAAB is toast. The timing chain has possibly slipped causing the pistons to bend. Am I saying that right? I don't know shit about cars, but I do know that this sucks. Hoping for a call back from mechanic that says "Just busting balls, your car is fine", but not bloody likely.

Had a couple of bad years with my studio when self-employed. Had similar tax payments to make, and always enjoyed the fact that even a bad year self employed put more money in my pocket than being employed. In some ways there's a sweet spot that means your earnings are pitiful but every single penny goes your way and you actually have more money than you have, and temporarily experience the ability to swoop back and forth through time on a whim. A friend of mine went temporarily invisible after paying the tax man 4p. Someone I was at school with learned to fly after grossing only £48 for a whole financial year.
People who spend their life in employment never realise this sort of stuff is possible.

on a similar note I made my normal desk into a ghetto standing desk (putting a coffee table on it). Its awesome, standing up feels so much nicer. My back is giving me all sorts of high fives right now.
