where did that pop-up? ... could have done with that about a year ago, when I was writing my final year dissertation on this kind of thing.
In case you really haven't got anything better to do, here it is:

hitler was an amazing designer.

I am just imagining the PV-AN in the the 1920s and 30s:
Rip-Alert: Hitler certainly ripped mutiple designers of their designs.
Of course he then gave it to a part-time freelance designer (who was a normally a dentist) to actually "design" it.

I just wanted to give my thoughts, I haven't read the entire thread becasue I have to leave, so I apologize if this has been said...
The Nazi symbol has been a fashion statement in Japan before. It's not meant to be offensive, it's just a really nice symbol. Now, is this symbol bad..... I'm not jewish, but I still think I wouldn't be fond of people wearing it, but again, maybe it's a "never forget" as in, we can move on, but never forget what happened and what it did.
Also, what I find more offensive is some documentary footage I've seen of Sid Vicious wearing a Nazi shirt. That was over 20 years ago and I think that's a little more offensive than this.
anyway, I wouldn't wear it, but just my objective thoughts.

it's ok cause it's fashioN?
fuck off.
It's fucked.
Nuff said.

design is design, realistically, it has nothing to do what it stands for. You can appreciate the design of it and not be a hater, actually. He stole it from India anway. People pray to that symbol eveyday. BTW, Hugo Boss designed their uniforms. The Argentines were also Germanophiles during that era.

I can see cookie spent a long time writing his response. It's seems he's been to many debate classes.
- cookie0
meh. still think you're wrong.
And am not about to get dragged into a debate on this.. didn't read the other posts so I had nothing ejukashunal to add.
I debate well. Just not now.
;P

It trivialises atrocities commited against millions of people in the name of looking good.
happy?
- kutsie0
cool cool,
I never said it was a good idea, but I did a little devils advocate. I do think it is a great symbol, it's just unfotunant it can never be used (without becoming offensive) because what it once stood for.
I would not wear it.
On a side note I'm not a big fan of the confederate flag either.

kutsie!
It's all cool my friend - I was being a bit of a wanker when it comes down to it.
I apologise prefusely! It sucks when the PVAN degenerates into mindless crap like what I just said.

used in connection with nazi-design it's just disgusting. i don't have any understanding for this. in the 80 there was the same sick fashion thing going on. funny how things come back.

I live in Vienna and believe me when I saw those pictures of the IZZU store I couldn't believe that somebody would really have the courage to use nazi symbolism for cloathing.
This is totally sick and wrong and has nothing to do with being daring.
It just makes me very sad and just gives me another example for what is wrong with marketing nowadays. My love for design doesn't always convert well to marketing.
Some of you guys should think a little bit more about what they are actually doing ..
which is selling t-shirts that sport symbols of human cruelty and deruction. If you'll like to wear these and feel totally fine about it, then you should probably visit your doctor.
And what about about those "it's in the past blablal " comments.
Do you want to convert the nazi symbols into symbols of love and freedom.
I am very pissed off about this.
- cookie0
Definitely - too many people seem to be passing this off as a frivolous issue - where it's ok because it's design and so on...

you know Neo-Nazis are loving our fear of the swastika. What is more intimidating than a skinhead neo-nazi carrying and a swastika flag? Most neo-nazis don't care about anti-semitism and all the rest of the shit they are talking about, but only need to show their strength in public (because all of them are complete failures).
So in theory if we constantly use swastikas in positive non-nazi applications (this is what the "Friends of the swastika" argue), we are actually taking away a weapon from the Neo-Nazi community.
again I am referring to what I wrote here: http://www.martinrees.com/diss-w…
