whats the matter, can't take a little friendly jab in the side from an ally? where's your sense of humor
- Danski0
Ain't any humour in death dude, except the one liners in Die Hard. But those guys weren't actually dead. They were just lying there until the take was over.

I don't think its fair to call the French cowards. Their motives for opposing the war obviously stem from economic reasons.
If Saddam is removed from power they will those all of those oil drilling rights they purchased (and so will Russia).
- barnburner0
that, and it might also be revealed just how much arms deals was made between the iraqi and the french. still, neither are good reasons to oppose the war.
i still think chirac is also looking to find a way to balance the level of power in the world. a.k.a jealous of the us

Now to the meat of the matter, then. Oil. Oil and power. Marriage of.
I'm out of this discussion for now. I've got to go home and listen to rush limbaugh tapes until I laugh so hard that my spleen physically bounces off the ceiling and into your drink. [plink]

Why do Yanks approach war like they are engaging in a Hollywood production ?

whoever said that the atomic bombs dropped in japan was good is an idiot. Americans are so blind.
The USA dropped those bombs KNOWING that japan was about to surrender. They had already notified the USSR. Their army had been defeated to ruins.
The reason the USA dropped those bombs was to LET RUSSIA KNOW that the USA had the power and to back off their troop movements deep into China and towards Japan.
Learn your history boy.
and as far as a solution other than war against Iraq...
Well it's going to cost SEVERAL HUNDRED BILLION DOLLARS to wage this war.
Why not take that money and give it to the iraqi resistance and let them take their own country over for themselves and then pay the money back in oil once they've ousted Saddam?
You know why? because Dick Cheney and Haliburton, etc want that oil ALL FOR THEMSELVES....and once Iran and Syria are taken THE OIL EMPIRE WILL BELONG TO THE USA AND YOU ALL WILL BOW TO THEIR POWER.
It takes OIL to wage war...and he who controls the oil controls the ability to wage war.
I know.... it's pure evil.

Barnburner, I'm with Bluejam, enlighten us. And in your own words, not a rehash of the link you posted earlier.
Many people are not convinced by the Bush administration's plans for post-war Iraq.
My opinion, one shared by many around the world, is that war will be the biggest recruitment card for terrorism that has ever been made.
I also think it is dangerous for the US to be so powerful and unchecked, not because of "jealousy" but precisely because of the attitude demonstated by the Bush administration so far - that they don't need international support but can declare war on any country they choose and will be unchallenged.

Jamesshhh... your history is absolutely awful. who was your teacher? they should seek another profession.
honestly i couldnt say it any better then what was already said on that site.

See one of the ways you can assess someone's understanding of an issue is to ask them to tell it in their own words. Didn't you ever study "Comprehension" in primary school?
Go on, give it a go.

god will you stop with the whole oil thing. i'm SO sick of it. g.w.b is a texan correct?!? he has stake in oil right?!? it is a fact that a vast majority of texans have some sort of stake in oil both foriegn and domestic, and if you tell them that this war is about oil they're going to laugh in your face. iraq is 7% of our oil. NOTHING! it is more of a matter of trade than it is we NEED their oil.
and if it was about oil why didn't we take it in 91-92 when we were on thier border? or why didn't we take all kuwaits oil? why? it's not about oil!
simple fact of the matter... you don't fear a country/superpower like russion or germany who possess nukes and w.o.m.d. you fear the madman and his followers who will gladly strap a bomb on their childs back and throw them on a bus.
one nuclear warhead detonated even 8 miles off the coast of the u.s. and we're screwed. and don't even tell me they won't or can't do it because you're dealing with a man who has killed and gassed his own, tortures and kills not only the person who opposes him (in his own country) but also will kill your family to make sure to end it once and for all.
you say he doesn't have any illegal weapons? you DID hear that they are destroying warheads and rockets that just two weeks ago they swore they didn't have! hmmm.... wonder what else they have?!?
wake up. you have all been offered the pill to wake up out of the matrix. take it.

This quote appears at the bottom of the abive URL:
"...shows that the oil reserves of the three countries from the Middle East, viz. Iraq, Kuwait and UAE, are likely to last longer than the oil reserves of any other country. These reserves can, therefore, become great strategic assets in the near future, and getting control of them can become crucial for a global hegemon like the USA. It is also notable that, apart from Iraq, the USA has friendly regimes in the other two Middle Eastern countries. Therefore, a regime more friendly than the current one in Iraq is definitely of strategic significance to the USA in the medium and long run."
And it's not about oil.
No yer right. It's about controling the world.

AAAAHHAHAHAHAHAH!
yeah. make sure when you say that it's with your pinky in the corner of your mouth and a 'mini you' standing close by.

One argument that pro-war campaigners use is that anti-war campaigners are somehow pro-Saddam. They then reel off all the statistics about how evil Saddam is and how he is about to kill us all unless we go to war, and unfortunately kill innocent Iraqi civillians.
I would say that of course Saddam is evil, and he must be removed. But the UN should be allowed to help the Iraqi people overthrow Saddam themselves. Many people in his own country hate him and if they were strong enough would overthrow him. The Shi-ites tried it and got no backing from the west after they were promised they would be supported and so they were slaughtered.
Democracy cannot be imposed from above by the US, it must be be grown from the grassroots up.

I'm glad we're all designers and not international diplomats.
Go back to designing and stop telling our leaders how to run the world. I think they may know just a wee bit more about this than us.

kona - Iraq has the worlds second largest oil reserves in the world after Saudi Arabia.
Iraq is 7% of 'Americas oil' as you said. If one need the oil or not, having control over the second largest oli reserves in the world would make me laugh. And I don't even have a car.
And if you don't believe american oil companies are having huge interrests and are lobbying to put pressure on Bush to get control over some of these resources you are naive.
Why didn´t you take the oil in 91-92? Thats not an argument for not having interests in controling it now. The goal of the war is now to get rid of Saddam. Well I don´t think so, why didn't you do it in 91-92? (I am being rethoric now). The last war was about getting the Iraqis out of Kuwait (after a UN resoulution). Now we are talking about changing the government with a possibility of a 100.000 american troops staying there for years. Thats a difference.
I'm not shure if the oil is the main reason for going to war with Iraq, but I doubt it is Bush's interrest in human rights.

i was just about to jump in and say that the US is in it for the future reserves that Iraq contains but vespa beat me to it.
so to k0na_an0k if this is not the main reason behind this war then what is?
weapons of mass destruction?
then the US should be emassing troops on the borders of every country in the world.Human rights violations?
start with these butchers
