KEITH RICHARDS COULD BE PROOF THAT MIRACLES EXIST.
sorry caps lock

imso- they are just tales of people that were in touch with God and the things they did to express that feeling. The Bible was written by man, man is flawed. Man can have mental disorders, especially when their out in the desert and havent eaten... yes they may have been in touch with the energy of god, but whos to say their interpretations are exact... Im sorry if that offends anyone.
- ethered0
all religions express one thing, that this energy, this God...exists... thats why religions were born.

It's not that it offends me what you believe, I just don't like when it impedes on other people's beliefs/lives and can't be questioned like any other form of thought can. The fact that it has this taboo to it that it can't be questioned makes it incredibly dangerous in certain people's hands. get me?

watch part one

I agree. Its kinda what Im getting at... these religions all have their little rules and differences, but at the end of the trail they all point to there being a higher power. Thats what people need to focus on, not the petty differences and specifics.

tank02, points for honesty.
dobs, I've spent my whole life questioning my religion and every other. I am certainly open to questions, which is why I do my best to answer you and others on here. It's the notion of absolute truth that you don't want to buy, which is understandable because it suddenly gives one far fewer paths to knowing God than people would like to have.
ethered, I really don't believe that we all follow the same God who happens to have a myriad different names. Just look at the contradicting descriptions of the nature of God(s) from Islam to Christianity to Hinduism to Mystic Paganism (Neo-Druidic, earth worship etc.) The way each faith fundamentally defines Deity is radically different from one camp to another, creating irreconcilable differences.
Thus, there is just no way that we are all on the right path. It's impossible: theologically, logically, morally and spiritually untenable.

gramme did you watch part 1 of zeitgeist? What do you make of the parallels between jesus and other pagan gods?

"Just look at the contradicting descriptions of the nature of God(s)"
again, human descriptions are open to error...the differences are created by human description.

(Aug 25 07, 12:56)For sure, but we can't all be right. You yourself admit that human knowledge is limited and our comprehension of things is often flawed.
That being said...what if there is an actual God-breathed scripture that just so happened to be delivered by people? Authored by God, penned by human beings.
I'm a firm believer that God speaks through many mediums, really whatever conduit he chooses. In my opinion Scripture is his modus operandi, the essential stuff, the basics, the Things Not To Be Forgotten or Disobeyed. Anything else is bonus revelation and is usually more open to interpretation—nonetheless I think he's still speaking. Through nature, through people, through mathematics, through physics, through the innate creative desire that lives in every one of us and through suffering and joy. Most of us just don't see or refuse to credit the source of that still small voice.

(Aug 25 07, 12:29)Sounds like some great creative writing. I'm sure Tom Harpur did a lot of research on his book "Pagan Christ", but people who have based their lives on the study of Egypt and it's culture (egyptologists) have another take, which seems more credible based on their credentials:
"Reactions of Egyptologists:
Ward Gasque, a volunteer book reviewer for Amazon.com surveyed twenty contemporary Egyptologists. He asked them about the origins of Jesus' name, the relationship between Horus and Jesus, whether both experienced a virgin birth, and whether the Egyptian religion considered Hourus to be an incarnation of God.
Ten responded, They agreed:
Jesus' name is a Greek form of a very common Semitic name Jeshu'a, which is normally translated into English as Joshua.
There is no evidence that Horus was born of a virgin, that he had twelve disciples, or that he was considered incarnation of God."

"For sure, but we can't all be right."
We cant all be right, but we can all be wrong.I am all for man trying to write scriptures about God, thats a good intention. But when these scriptures start wars and death...its time to put these writings in proper perspective. They were written by men.

but what about all of the other persian, hindu and other lost religions that tell the same story?
