The employee of an old client contacted me via Linkedin few days ago. We had a great time together while working on several projects for the third largest porn company in the us. He was a well payed content manager livin' lavida loca, and I lead the cheap overseas digital department working my ass off for that little $.

I was fucking greedy and thought he has cash to burn and wants to invest into something or at least has some serious work for me, so wrote him an ass-kissing email :) Ohh it was awesome working with you...lol
today we started talking on skype, after a while I asked him what's he now doing exactly, and he said that their job is basically to find copyrighted material on the internet and file lawsuits against ppl who sell shit and torrent site owners. started laughing and made a joke about how this job must suck if he would have stayed at same firm where we meet. The conversation became embarrassing after he told me that their biggest clients are porn producers and studios and the job really sucks and he is in trouble because the stakeholders hired some developers behind his back, and they made an ai with some machine learning shit, and they're testing the tools on the clients he brought in few years ago so his job will be obsolete in 6 months, and wants some ideas because I had such great mind back in the days and we were so cool together %ohfuckme%, and what a great success our company became in 2007 (after your boss kicked us out mofo) the chit-chat ended quickly, because I could not listen to his whining about how fucked he is right now. I guess now he is missing that money what was spent on coke and bitches back in the days :) fucking 3 hours of my life.

Yesterday — while waiting in line at this tiny shop to buy some cheesecake for a friends sick daughter (she loves this cheesecake) — I did some mental calculations to pass the time.

    48 cakes per oven per hour @ $10 cake = $480/hr/oven

    3 ovens = $1440/hr

    store is open 8am-11pm, 15hr x $1440 = $21,600 / day

    open 7 days/week = $151,200 / week

    54 weeks = $8 million

    8 million dollars

This shop has lineups from the moment it opens until closing time. 30-40 minute wait for a maximum 1 cheese cake per person. Tiny store, sells nothing else. 4 minimum wages workers toiling away.

    • food synthesizer ovens what converts pure air to cheesecake? food is like clothing if you do it right you can make with a little investment 200-400% margin.sted

How can a 2013 Subaru WRX sport which sold in 2013 with a original MSRP 25,795, be valued in bluebook to sell at 22158-25255 w/46K miles. Dealer here has a sticker price of 25999 on the window but they really want 23K. I had to go down and ask in person just to see the response. Not to mention carfax reports my current car 2003 wrx w/177k miles would retail for 8K as stock.

Really smells like 2007 home bubble, and some new kind of ignorance is going on. like if kellybluebook basing its values on autos being sold and aggregating the data. Which is a problem considering the volume of carmax inventory buying and selling practices. They might be artifically buying and shaping the market, + FICO score tweaks, easy lending practices.... Something is definitely not right when buying new is better than buying used. Much like when rent surpasses mortgages. scary....

    • Blue book definitely inflates valuesHayoth
    • Nothing like rent surpassing mortgages, whatever that really means. Also, $8k for a 15 year old ride with a heavily used engine is more than fair.monospaced
    • And I agree. That price seems stupid as shit considering the car in question is also used and has certainly depreciated.monospaced
    • When rent is higher than the cost to by a home. My car I'd value at like 4-5k even with its mods. Its old. Sure ive fixed a lot of big ticket but a transmissiodeathboy
    • is pretty steep, Im thinking like 6-7k if that goes out. which is why I value it far less than what is being reported. Plus the other stuff at that agedeathboy
    • the valuations of used cars im seeing are no way near correct. carmax has a 2013 wrx for 26999, which came off the lot for a lil over 26k.deathboy
    • yeah ... weird ... but still nothing like the phenomena of rents being higher than mortgage payments for the same property (which they always are, btw)monospaced
    • naw only in markets with artificial growth. or where supply somehow is being suppressed. in reno that was the price signal right before the collapse and its bacdeathboy
    • but that is largely do to sandoval offering free money to any business and promoting the idea of job growth, while developers were wiped out created a small supdeathboy
    • ply and driving prices up like a wiiU on roids.deathboy
    • In my experience, a new car's MSRP is about a few thousand dollars LESS than it actually costs. They add fees/charges, the sticker price is just bait.nb
    • The fees and taxs always add to the cost, but MSRP is usually the median. Generally you can get 1k-2K knocked off MSRP, with trucks a lot more. which in thisdeathboy
    • case it makes it look even worse of a deal. The used manager actually wants me to call him. I think no one has called them out, they have been relying ondeathboy
    • "software" to calculate competitive prices, makes me think others are doing the same and the entire market is running on false valuations and will collapsedeathboy
    • I think the valuation data is derived from autotrader and selling inventory which carmax controls is values are weighted. and ignorance on their part todeathboy
    • pad profit margins have them pricing used vehicles higher than new, and ignorant consumers are looking at false valuations to justify the spenddeathboy
    • i did the same looking at market numbers, but than I got curious of original MSRP and had to find that info and realized the farce.deathboy

Set up a new desk for all my music gear this weekend, did one of the Ikea "recording studio desk" hacks with a tabletop and a shelf with short legs above it. Bought adjustable legs, got it all put together, speakers, monitor, etc. and realized it's just a bit taller than I'd like it to be. Now I've got to take everything off and accurately lower the height. Dumb.

So the month of June; My cousin's bachelor party in Vegas one weekend. Helping my parents move back down to SoCal from San Jose. Helping my buddy get his car ready for a drift event. Flying out to Maine at the end of the month for Cousin's Wedding........and two web projects to finish in between all that.

Second week of my kayaking course and we went out into the open water to tool around a bit. Been waiting since forever for it to start after my friends took me out late last year. I knew the basics from them, but having someone tell you about the small things like how to properly pull the paddle through the water and what to correct makes a big difference and all the more satisfying when it clicks (not that my friends are lousy, far from it - one is probably competition level and the other has paddled for years).

Today we were out and it started to pish down, really heavy rain. Didn't care. A great feeling to speed through the water and just enjoy the moment. Shoulders are beginning to hurt like fuck though - so my technique and positioning are improving, whereas last week my legs were bastards because I was tensing too much trying to compensate for the wobble. Now i'm more used to it, didn't give my balance a second thought. I've done running and whatnot, but I think I may have found my thing with this. Final class next week, then I get to become a proper member and able to take the kayak out whenever I wish. Woo and, if you will, yay!
