My grandma, great grandma and great-great grandma, lived +100 years (granny blew 102 candles). It’s a curious fact that my mom uses to brag about and joke with my dad.

The two older ladies were born and lived in La Coruña, Spain. They were poor housewives, mothers of many kids. My grandma, the one who travelled and got married in Uruguay, worked in port customs. She loved eating asado, drinking wine, and even if she was an active woman all her life, she never did any sport, smoked till her 50s, ate whatever shit she wanted, and loved sunbathing.

    None were billionaires.

Life might be short, or long; it can be hard, or easy, fun, boring, whatever,; but theres no moneys that’ll make you live any longer, nor here or in any other fucking place in the Universe.

    Cheers!

    • Good for them (I guess?). But money can help you live longer. I personally wouldn't like to but money can help you.palimpsest
    • Of course there are cases where money can't help you but all things being equal money will give you an advantage.palimpsest
    • Of course it can help you if your genetics suck or if you decide becoming addicted to K during your 40s.maquito
    • ..but in the end we are going to die, even if we try to buy as many minutes of life as our wallet can afford.maquito
    • What I tried to convey was the crazy fact of poor people living their lifes till becoming 100 y/o vs rich fucks that might be moving mountains to live longer.maquito
    • So money can help you live longer?palimpsest
    • I don't think living under 100 years means your genetics suck.palimpsest
    • I don't think anyboy was saying that poor people can't live long lives.

    • I get your thought @pali, and I agree to certain extent. You can buy healthcare with money, thus, you can acquire a better health with money /maquito
    • Perhaps what I meant, and I got tangled with my grandma's tale, is that there are still certain factors that affect health and aging that cannot be modified ../maquito

Anyone else reduce themselves to watching "Equalizer 3" on Netflix yet? I had a moment of weakness yesterday afternoon waiting for my wife to get ready (yep... I had that much time)... anyway... um... wtf, Denzel?

Does he have some debilitating disease like Bruce that's lead him to roles like this? Don't get me wrong - I watched the whole thing and went 'wooah... gross... wow... what the fuck? lolol' more than once... I was entertained. But I'm just a bit taken back that the man from "Malcolm X", "Training Day" etc takes this role at this stage in his life. He looks pudgy, old... I swear those are dentures...

    Are you sick, Denzel?

The famous Dibble Tree in my home town of Carnoustie which was a victim of a recent storm (I posted some pics of it a few weeks back) has been pruned to within an inch of it's life. The surprising thing to me is that some of the branches have not been saved with the intention of turning them into souvenirs for tourists, Carnoustie is a famous golf town in Scotland. But the council seemed to have missed a trick as they have all been chipped and left for scattering in the local park.

Did you have a holiday party (if you work in an office)?

Went to my parent's house today partly to plan a trip in September but also to clean out some cupboards. My parents are re-painting my old room. I last painted it in high school.

Going through my old stuff (I collected so much random shit as a little kid) and deciding what to keep and what to throw was tough. But even more so was seeing all the old ideas, art pieces from school, old work from college and detritus from various chapters of my life.

As PonyBoy commented a few posts earlier, "Regrets will eat you alive", so I'm not going to dwell too much. But I had a strong sense of wasted potential and lost connections. So many wonderful people I met and lost contact with. Sadness about how innocent and stupid I was. It all had a physical effect on me. At one point I just had to look out the window and just breathe.

The planned trip itself is has an emotional element. It may be the last time my father goes back to his home country. I last went there with him decades ago, first time he had been back since he left.

Reflecting on my childhood and the years in between, I have noticed patterns of behaviour and thought that lead to feeling that I may have squandered or at least not made the most of the last 2 decades. And that I feel today I am at least aware of, if not actively working on. So good things ahead.

It was also good sense of perspective. I realised how focused I have become on business and money and it was a good point to let people and non-productive things into my life more.

It was a heavy, but good way to start the year. My New Years resolutions: 1. Take on less side-projects and finish what I start. 2. Spend more time with people.

    • this is great, I feel you_niko
    • People are overrated : )maikel

  • bainbridge-1

15 years ago I was awkward and depressed and started hanging out with this girl that I had been obsessed with and she reciprocated. Somehow I was afraid to get close and pushed her away, because I was depressed and lacked confidence. And then stopped talking to her despite her trying a few times to reconnect. And then I hated myself for it, but couldn't even get coffee with her for some unknown reason.

I ran into her randomly last year for the first time in 10 years and she's married now and we're different people, but I occasionally still wonder what would have happened and think about how bad at everything I was, when it was all right there and could have been great.
