There is a lot going on in the logo still. I reccomend you break away from illustrator and hand sketch the elements. You’ll find you dont need things like the shadow on the lighthouse, the point on the anchorx the outer barb points of the anchor, possibly even the seascape if you make a dark, starry sky.
You might consider getting rid of the anchor element entirely and solming in on a really nice lighthouse. Logos dont tend to shoulder too many subjects at once very well.

Ahh such an old school QBN thread. Refreshing!

ditch the background and the ribbon completely for now and focus on the lighthouse, anchor and type, in B+W. You've made a solid start with those.
basically what everyone else said.

great input in this thread, QBN'ers never disappoint when it comes to help and feedback.
you have:
black
grey
white
blue
brown
yellowplus:
grading effect.
and:
too many colors.
too many small details.
shadows.
thin outlines that don't bring anything.
too much text in such a small space.
elements over type.maybe the client likes it now but I guess when they'll need to use it in smaller sizes or want to use a monochrome version they will understand it doesn't work.
I would start by removing the "Tua Luce Dirige"...

This might interest you. It's possible to have a suite of versions of a logo for different formats. A detailed one for large formats, simpler one for every day applications, a small/basic one for small use etc.
In each of these typography needs to be considered in relation to the scale the logo will be used at.I think this site of responsive logo concepts might be worth looking at:
- Think about what you could lose from the logo in terms of detail while still communicating the essence (anchor & lighthouse)BaskerviIle

- in answer. i don't really care in the execution of the exercise here, it serves its purpose in context.detritus
- This is great but was it not just called "lockups" before?Mattjanz3n
- @detritus yeah, that 3rd Chanel became a HANELKrassy
- I doubt that's in their brand guidelinesset

For a logo... too much detail and too many colours, in my opinion...
- it is a little bit kitchen sink-y, i'll agreehans_glib
- agreed ... but for a college/university seal, it's about the right amount of business, it's just not legible enoughmonospaced

not gonna work at web resolution or mobile the details too fine.

Definitely don't have the light beams or anchor interfering with the type.
Simplify/bold up the lighthouse. Esp. the criss cross lines and windows - they do make it look prison-like
Fatter type
Like the shadow effect, maybe try a bit of it on the arrows of the anchor
Can the slogan be gotten rid of or maybe put onto the anchor?
I think the brown colour also helps the prison feel
Lighthouse shorter so it doesn't mess with the type.

If you're committed to the anchor-lighthouse fusion you need to make the beams of light solid. I'd also make the background a single colour (darker the better) to avoid implying the light is on during the day (and the sky/land/shore/sea really isn't needed anyway, but you could knock out some vvv vvv stylized waves if you really wanted).

On conceptual level - you're client will be happy. You have many conceptual elements that tie in nicely.
Execution wise - I think it's too complex and need to simplify the linework to make it work in a more flexible way. That is easier said than done!

Send them to the client right now.
Stop listening to this pretentious lot of cunts (including me).

I like how in the third version the colors go to the limit of the logo.
but i think the first one works better no doubt.plus what brainbridge wrote.
