I watched the original again after having only seen it once like 10 years ago. It was ok. I liked it more than I remembered, but its still flawed imo.
Pretty amazing they got that done without the tech they have today, but the movie itself aside from the visuals is still kinda boring. There is so little story there, but its still stretched out over a while through what feel like endless shots of nothing happening. They tried to fill the space of these dead shots with no dialogue with these loud ass synths, which I guess helps, but there was way too much of it. It actually felt like they just duplicated many shots and sprinkled the same shots throughout the film lol.
So Im seeing the new one this sat. I keep hearing amazing things so I hope it doesnt disappoint.
- get ready ready for a 2:45:00 of synths and engine revving sounds ;)Ramanisky2
- I agree with "loud ass synths"...sorta like the overused Michael Bay or J.J. Abrams Lens flares.utopian
- I didn't mind the sound at all.
loved it.Ramanisky2 - I'm not sure you understood the movie if you claim the story isn't much.monospaced
- I always compare it to old western films. The silence says a whole lot...ShaneHolley

I can kind of understand the quibbles with story and acting but I could have just carried on watching it, regardless of what was happening. Not even watching - just gazing at it rumble past. It is SO good to look at.
The light, the snow, the dust. Like Bluejam said - the glitchy Elvis scene is ridiculously good.

Three short prequels to 2049

WOW.
This is a legitimately good film. In some ways better than the original.
- Not that we need to compare. They're 30 years apart, the entire language and culture of film is different now.nb

I was really pleased that this film was able to be its own thing, without obvious studio interference. So tired of obvious fanboy masturbation of starwars (hey look the new one also has darth vader and the millennium falcon!).
Looks great, stands on its own but also builds on the story from the first. Amazing atmospheric scenes and mood. Having just watched the first one in the theater last week, I might like this one more.

For some balance... (zero spoilers)
- "At its centre is Ryan Gosling, an actor who has built a cottage industry out of playing characters who sport an entirely blank expression." lolyuekit
- For the most part it does seem to be getting good reviews though.
https://www.rottento…yuekit - just checked his other sci fi movie ratings, not convinced. he's all over place.
https://letterboxd.c…Bluejam - i'm a star wars fan but to give Force Awakens 4.5 stars ...
https://media.giphy.…Bluejam - Yep - agreed. But also worries me, the general reaction to Blade Runner reminds me of the hysteria for Force Awakens which lets face it deserved little of thefadein11
- praise it got. It's easier re-watching the last 2 prequels than that haha.fadein11
- actually looking at his other reviews though - I think we may have similar tastes.fadein11

"It just has to be experienced on the biggest screen possible. Blade Runner 2049 is a narcotic spectacle of eerie and pitiless vastness, by turns satirical, tragic and romantic."
"Its mind-boggling, cortex-wobbling, craniofacial-splintering images are there to trigger awe or even a kind of ecstatic despair at the idea of a post-human future, and what it means to imagine the wreck of our current form of homo sapiens."
- Peter Bradshaw in the Guardian
* Bradshaw is well known for plot reveals. I haven't read the whole review for that reason.
- I'm generally a fan of his reviews.
Just read it.
Seeing it nxt Fri.
I am less worried now.fadein11 - i read it.
he drops a few plot details, nothing too major, but yeah, stay way.Bluejam - apparently it's better than the original first film according to one headline i saw
7 days to go ...Bluejam - I had v.low expectations for this but it seems from a visual point of view alone it's going to be worth it.fadein11
- The fact that he's reproduced a key scene from the original, like he did with the Alien reboot, makes me say no thanks.see_thru

- he didn't direct the Alien prequelfadein11
- I'm generally a fan of his reviews.
