I overheard someone yesterday receive a telephone call, seemingly about some pre-discussed work, and the person at my end apologetically stated that they were holding off doing anything until after Brexit as they needed to "see what happens". Cue multiple apologies and guilty look.
A friend's brother is an estate agent and has laid off six staff as the entire sales market has ground to a halt, especially after the pound fell.
My own work has spluttered to a stop - I started off this year with the most enquiries I've had in the period for a good 5 years, but since then.. barely fuck all.
No one's spending.
I have a couple of friends who have businesses peripheral to mine and they're in the same boat. Everyone's just biding time to 'wait and see'.
I have two other friends - a couple, one half American, one half Italian - he can't get work because his industry (pharma) has stopped taking anyone new on, and they can't move to Europe because all their savings are in the bank here, in pounds. They're trapped and can't further themselves.

We were looking at getting a home loan.. but Sydney’s housing market has been cooling.. and my gut instinct is that the whole global economy is headed for a bloodbath on the back of this shitshow.. so we have been holding off. It will like make it harder, but don’t want to get stuck with a mortgage for a house that is worth way less than when we got it
