I just wanted to revive this thread and point out that the separatist strategy of relying on oil revenue looks like it was going to be a world of pain for Scotland.
Being part of a larger union helps you weather storms like these.
- Agree n disagree, independence is not easy but people have to have an idea of what is gained. you can get around if the economy is diversified enough.yurimon

Both campaigns tried to make the economic case for a Yes or No. Neither managed. Misinformation was rife. Including the BBC.
24 hours after the vote Cameron stood in for of number 10 and said 'English votes for English people'. So much for better together.
Those that live north of the border feel cheated, betrayed and angry. Which is why the SNP took nearly every seat in the election.
Every time a Tory opens his/her mouth it'll get worse. Scottish independence is inevitable now.

I'm all in favor of it...Devolve the world into smaller and smaller parts until no one can mess things up anymore.
- so only one or two super powers hold all the production of food and minerals. great idea.zenmasterfoo

Any how Rosko, bumdrizzle, Chossy. Enjoyed some stimulated debate with you. I appreciate your pashmina and admire the spirit - I just can't agree (whether via news channel bias or not) that the stats line up to make it better f
- Or UK or Scotland. But good luck and if Scotland votes 'yes' I'm sure everyone will do their bestbabaganush

From http://bellacaledonia.org.uk/201… :
‘A police force that didn’t carry guns’Strange then, that the first police force to go out publicly with guns for no apparent reason, was out in the Islands recently:

Catalonia is another one that might go independent
- Spain would vote no for Scotland's EU vote to squash Catalonia's hopes. http://www.thelocal.…sem

" a world of virtual nations, where individuals choose the system they want to support and be supported by"
This is a very vague idea... Things have to be simple to apply at large humanz scale.

My partner and I have already cast our postal votes.

@biznutty Just move to a place where you feel the system is better, if people around you always vote differently and support a system you feel isn't in your best interest then you are free to settle anywhere you want. A system is by definition a shared experience, if most people in that system have different goals than yours then you'll always feel frustrated.

Its will be fraud if you still have to pay taxes on your labor. and it has a central bank. and usry, etc..
- meaning if you have those things, you are really not that independent..yurimon

@oey
What is Scottish (regular people)? London has far more of an influx (for a start) of say...organised pickpockets from Bulgaria, transient workers from the EU that aren't British intent on banking a stack if cash to take back to their own country.
Comparing the metropolitan area of London with the country of Scotland as a barometer of people's goodwill is just a pointless article...suitably bundled in with the key statistic of Scotland not liking mopeds...
I'm sure if you took a proper means test of 'England' that fairly took a median based in size etc. the stats would be much more equal with genuine people in the provinces with a conscience contributing more to that statistical case study...mind you Alex Salmond would probably use such a stat...
- fuck, by regular I meant common people...muahahaha! seriously, I meant up to the middle class.oey
- are you saying that pickpockets from Bulgaria don't donate to charity?oey
- Scotland has been "pickpocketed" by English for far too long. Send those English thieves back to Bulgaria...oey
- Balanced points well made...babaganush

Just to prove I'm not pro Tory etc and that I'm just defending the rest of the 99% in London getting hate for costs etc.
This is something I fully agree needs to be stopped.

the first task as an independent nation will be to explain to the shetland islanders why the oil is not theirs.
- < THIS, whats to stop them then wanting independence then and leaving Scotland fucked.sem
- Scottish power only arrived in force in Shetland during the Reformation when, in 1564, Mary, Queen of Scots, granted the crown lands in Orkney and Shetland to her half brothersem

o I don't really know much about this...but if the YES vote gets up, will Scotland still be part of Great Britain?

Like i said some pages ago, the idea is to use the oil for good and we begin to look at what the future really can be in terms of selling oil at the right price to fund our own energy infrastructure to fuel the whole of the UK.
The currency fear factor is more psychological and political than anything that is based on economics.
No currency union slows down our development of such massive energy systems and job creation, at the same time, it single handedly wrecks the rest of the UK economy more than Scotland going independent. The people you trust versus the people you're told not to trust. The news you see versus the news you don't see.
Food is another huge one, i know someone who sells agricultural lighting setups from Phillips and yeah, generally people up here are starting to think, right, this is what we can do when we're forced to be responsibly competitive with creative thinking thrown in as well.
Could you imagine Alisdair Darling, Miliband or Cameron coming up to Scotland and having a debate about renewable energy?
Haha, never gonna happen. But if it happened today and neither side was allwoed to prepare a script, who would talk openly about it, and who would be humming and hawing?
