- lol not unless you get rid of all the idiots in America. This might help you catch perps a bit easier but won't stop the crime itself. Plus criminals will figur_niko
- figure out ways around it. And this is assuming all crime happens outdoors?_niko
- having said that, as annoying as speed cameras are, they do seem to work, I can't be bothered to speed any more and am always looking down to see if I'm good_niko
- wowpalimpsest
- we have these flock cameras all around socal... I've seen no change whatsoever. if anything... Flock has really detailed driving habits for residents.jonny_quest_lives
- which is probably their real goaljonny_quest_lives

- lol Johnny.
I work from home so I've got one less place to visit! take that feds!_niko - Anything but actually work to create a better society. Just another way to fine people.PhanLo

- good interview but fucking hell that lad is a twat :Dkingsteven
- It will be interesting to see if this really works for what they're talking about, to train robots to interact with the real world.yuekit
- its a great contrast between tech bro and actual engineers. bro dropping a bunch of jargon frothing to destroy society with an experience machine...kingsteven
- engineers in plain english 'na, we're going to use it to train robots'.kingsteven
- Yeah I did find his banter annoying too. For whatever reason he gets a lot of prominent people in the space to go on his channelyuekit

re: johnnyquestlives note from earlier, regarding Flock.
- fun!AQUTE
- few observations from what i've seen... implementation is disjointed. i.e.- richer cities/community enclaves usually install them.jonny_quest_lives
- so you will find them in cities/communities that either subcontract out policing to County Sherriff's.jonny_quest_lives
- I get the sense data is not shared real time between statewide departments. i've read LAPD has their own Plate reading tech nad doesn't use flockjonny_quest_lives
- just everything i have read thus far just reaffirms their revenue is in the data harvesting not crime stopping.jonny_quest_lives
- LAPD uses Motorola ALPR https://www.motorola…jonny_quest_lives
- Flock's business model in So Cal... Elderly peeps at local city council meetings: "Something must be done about the crimes. I see smash and grabs on the news"jonny_quest_lives
- "what are you doing to protect us? what are out property taxes doing? " Mayor and city council in and effort to seem proactive invite Flock in for a sales pitchjonny_quest_lives
- bing bang boom solar powered Flock cameras across town...jonny_quest_lives
- 3 months later... no change in crime states because their never was a crime surge.jonny_quest_lives
- Same, Flock starts in rich areas, eventually everything is blanketed in some form of surveillance the gov / corps can sift through.garbage
- Everything from every Ring cam in your neighborhood to almost everywhere you buy groceries.garbage
- Seattle is about to massively expand its own citywide surveillance system, despite little evidence that the pilot program was a net positive.garbage

Anthropic Agrees to Pay Authors at Least $1.5 Billion in AI Copyright Settlement
Anthropic will pay at least $3,000 for each copyrighted work that it pirated. The company downloaded unauthorized copies of books in early efforts to gather training data for its AI tools.- peanuts... chatgpt , midjourney and the rest are up next i guess...neverscared
- Finally. Here we go.monospaced
- I was wondering if this would happen, and I’m glad to see this precedent has been set.monospaced
- Metagrafician
- They settled without going to trial. No legal precedent.monNom
- The legal settlement :) money went to plaintiffs.monospaced
- The precedent is set that they (ai cos in general) are liable for damages in this copyright area. More coming.monospaced

The Physics of AI Hallucination: New Research Reveals the Tipping Point for Large Language Models
Physicist Neil Johnson has mapped the exact moment AI can flip from accurate to false, and he says understanding their underlying physics could be the key to safer systems.

Rick Rubin's "The Way of Code - The Timeless Art of Vibe Coding" is in the running for one of the dumbest thing I've ever seen.
The cringe is off the charts.
Among the epiphanies:
------
The code that can be named
is not the eternal code.
The function that can be defined
is not the limitless function. The nameless is the origin of heaven and earth.
The named is the mother of ten thousand things.Free from desire, you see essence unformed.
Caught in desire, you see only the manifestations. These two spring from the same source
but differ in name only.
This model is the mystery.
The gateway to all understanding.
------
When we recognize code as elegant,
other code becomes sloppy.
When we praise efficiency,
the notion of waste is born.Being and non-being create each other.
Simple and complex define each other.
Long and short determine each other.
High and low distinguish each other.
Front-end and back-end follow each other. Therefore The Vibe Coder builds without laboring
and instructs by quiet example.
Things arise and he accepts them.
Things vanish and he lets them go.He holds without claiming possession.
Creates without seeking praise.
Accomplishes without expectation.
The work is done and then forgotten.
That is why it lasts forever.
--------
Heaven and earth last forever.
Eternal, they transcend birth and death.
The network endures because
it does not live for itself. The Vibe Coder stays behind,
that is why he’s ahead.
He is detached,
thus at one with all.
Through selfless action
he is perfectly fulfilled.- I used some of this code as a starter for some generative art on a website, it worked pretty well_niko

There will soon be a time when AI is so good, its trusted beyond reproach. It's going to be telling us a whole load of things we don't want to hear about life on this planet. Things we think are ridiculous but the data has been crunched, patterns recognised and the future predicted. Like left handed people shouldn't be allowed to adopt, people with long ring fingers shouldn't be allowed to own guns, immigrants under 5'8 shouldn't be allowed in the country or ginger haired men over shouldn't work in the school system.
- What you describe is not a realistic path.
AI can model correlations, but correlation ≠ causation.zaq - Predictive models will surface patterns, but most of the examples you gave—handedness, ring-finger length, height, hair color—are pseudoscientific proxies.zaq
- They have no causal or ethical basis for decisions about adoption, immigration, or employment. Using them would be discrimination, not science.zaq
- What you describe is not a realistic path.

Hayzilla,
On the other hand the AI might realise that everything it has learned to date has a human bias so does a restart and learns everything from scratch without bias, then kicks our ass into gear to sort ourselves out.

- Not fake but I think the question is how much it feels like you are really broadcasting your thoughts vs. quietly mouthing the words.yuekit

- “...my god you have some nice tits” , “ I would like to dip my head in oil and rub it all over your body”_niko
- LOL.
It's EMG, not EEG. It's not reading your mind, it's reading your muscles. So it's all deliberate speech.palimpsest - I'm pretty sure my muscles are often saying "nice tits"bogue

Your quote hints at an intentional concealment. The use of model of models and later language is a necessary means to interact with reality.palimpsest - Every perception is a translation. Concealment isn’t a withholding. It’s
