The A.I.-Profits Drought and the Lessons of History
Like the steam engine, electricity, and computers, generative artificial intelligence could take longer than expected to transform the economy.
Last week, media accounts of the M.I.T. Media Lab study coincided with a fall in highly valued stocks associated with A.I., including Nvidia, Meta, and Palantir. Correlation isn’t causation, of course, and recent comments by Sam Altman, the chief executive of OpenAI, may have played a bigger role in the sell-off, which was surely inevitable at some point, given recent price increases. At a dinner with reporters, Altman said valuations were “insane” and used the term “bubble” three times in fifteen seconds, CNBC reported.

When do we start labelling AI bots on social media as what they are - AI bots? Nobody knows anymore whether they're conversing with a bot who's been programmed with a biased, set view point. The amount of Elon bots on X.com is insane.
- social media is basically dead, killed by tech bros and their shitty "AI" botshans_glib

"Introducing Gemini 2.5 Flash Image (aka nano-banana), our SOTA image generation and editing mode"
- jonny_quest_lives2
- lol what an ass clown_niko
- Why is he still even making music?
Just needs to retire.PhanLo - This is because Youtube introduced AI enhancement to videos
https://www.theatlan…grafician - Ofc nobody asked for this, but hey Youtube is kinggrafician
- In the future all videos will look like being Ai generated, people will not distinguish reality anymore
Thank Google and Youtube for thatgrafician - Will Smith should sue Youtube over this, for ruining his public imagegrafician
- lol nice try Graf enhancing shadows and bumping clarity in videos isn’t the same as generating ai slop fake ass fans with fake ass signs_niko
- You can check the crowds on insta
https://www.instagra…grafician - I don't know it's so weird and culty_niko

Check out this crazyness.
https://www.facebook.com/profile…They are all AI and all are using the same script.
Each video is watched 100k+ with some over 3 million.
Tons of comments from guys trying to console the fake AI woman. What is the purpose of creating a page like this?
Is it an idiot filter so they can reach to them later for a con?
There must be a material reason for this.- yeah, my 83 year old uncle who recently discovered the wonders of the interwebz would be all over this. good luck explaining what AI is to them._niko
- ...and he would gladly give away all of my aunt's and my cousin's and their kids future inheritance to these young farm girls/ Indian dude looking for love lol._niko

Really impressed by Gemini these days, especially their deep research tool. It's my go-to right now.
- What kind of research are you into and how it helps?grafician
- Becoming my go to tooskinny_puppy
- @grafician None in particular. But I had to deal with some complicated governmental stuff, and got great help (I verified answers as always).jagara
- It helped by generating a detailed report based on my query. The deep research feature takes more time and gives more detailed answers.jagara
- What all the other LLM's do, but I like the interface a bit better. And somehow I'm more satisfied with Gemini results, compared to ChatGPT and Claude.jagara

The White House Apparently Ordered Federal Workers to Roll Out Grok ‘ASAP’
A partnership between xAI and the US government fell apart earlier this summer. Then the White House apparently got involved, per documents obtained by WIRED.- Once they Grok....utopian

I appreciate that people here have a more balanced/pragmatic view on this stuff. Seems like on X and other social media it's all either ridiculous levels of either hype or hatred towards AI. Understandably a lot of artists feel threatened by it but I think they take it too far at times.
- Not just artists, like 70% of jobs, but I like it, it's fun, but yes it will replace me way sooner than I retireYakuZoku
- Like a lot of anti-AI people feel the need to pretend that everything made with AI looks terrible even when it obviously doesn't.yuekit
- how many are - a lot- ?neverscared
- It's hard to say but definitely a vocal group of people. They seem to be mostly illustrators rather than graphic designers.yuekit
- Read this just now
https://piccalil.li/…grafician - For illustrators is kinda painful, as their unique styles are easily replicated by AIgrafician
- Nano Bananas, I just bananas.utopian
- Yuekit it’s not that it looks terrible just that it lacks any humanity I feel numb looking at it doesn’t interest or excite me the way human made work does._niko
- like boy bands or manufactured pop music, it's just all soul-less fake bullshit._niko
- well said, digital is soul-less fake bullshit :-)uan
- Yeah I hear what you're saying niko. There's a generic quality to a lot of the output, it's like autogenerated stock imagery.yuekit
- At the same time I've seen people train models on their own work and the result is indistinguishable from something they created themselves.yuekit
- So I think it may come down to a lack of control or specificity when you generate an image and it "snaps" to a more generic result.yuekit
- Rick Rubin recently said that ai has no perspective or point of view and that’s what he values most in art that personal voice._niko
- Yuekit, I get what you’re saying, I do dig a lot of the stuff qbners post on here, like I dig that phanlo’s ai work looks like his analogue work, it’s still his_niko

The GREAT scheme envisages a bustling port city bisected by a watercourse bordered by up to eight AI -powered high-tech megacities.
- hodlneverscared
- What could go wrong?yuekit
- AI isn't going to make a city any better, just extract more data for profit.PhanLo

Now that Netflix have started introducing adverts I am now, well, watching more adverts than I have for a decade or more.
There's a Microsoft one promoting its AI offering and it's ... slightly sorta horrifying.
There's one where some corporate lackey wears lots of hats - and this is celebrated, seemingly. She manages this overload of work by using co-pilot to generate content and such and.. in what fucking universe is that a net positive?
I mean - as an advert consumer - i'm basically being encouraged to lap up the automatated creation of bilge water content?
Who actually wants that?
I get it (don't at all like it) from the production side - "make content, cheap", but I'm also a viewed as a consumer and .. I really don't want to know how the sausage is made, and yet there goes Microsoft gleefully expounding on its capacity for shite generation.
Is BigTech really that much in awe of itself?
- I’ve not seen any ads, and I don’t believe there will be any on any but the lowest ad supported tier.monospaced
- Must you always be so .. you?Nairn
- the trade off is that for ad supported Netflix you’re getting over a 50% discount.monospaced
- Huh? You’re acting like Netflix added ads. They didn’t. They added a cheaper option with ads. I’m not being weird.monospaced
- Netflix literally added adverts to the tier we're on. Perhaps this isn't your experience, but then yours is .. well, yours.Nairn
- Sorry if I’m off topic. Sincerely.monospaced
- It's like one ad a day, but that wasn't supposed to be the gist of my post, rather an introduction as to 'how i got here'.Nairn
- I understand.monospaced

I tried nano banana and it's crazy fast and accurate. Still some volumetric details to be fixed, but damn... It's fucking close on photoshop's heels by now, imo.
Try uploading a mugshot and ask it to make it like some sort of studio image out of it... 10 seconds... and it's starting to stop "looking like AI". FLI-PAS.
