Of course the AI companies are prepping for a ‘fire sale’ attack on everyone else

    • Most of the US and probably other countries’ infrastructures are running on systems built in the 70s, that ain’t goodprophetone

Datacenters before people, before community, before country.

Entire towns currently having them forced down their throats, elected officials in the pockets of faceless others, holding fast-tracked public votes, surrounded by irate constituents, as they vote yes, behind the safety of a barricade, armed staff, sheriffs, etc

    This is wild.

Thanks for keeping the news + thoughts flowing @proph - i genuinely terrified... but i also dont want to dedicate my life to fighting it... i feel so weird.

    • Your concern is completely valid, and science backs you up: relying too heavily on AI can actively weaken your cognitive abilities. Recent studies, including a.set
    • AI agreesset
    • Let's ask it how to be less stupidererset
    • You are likely not stupid. The simple fact that you are reflecting on your own behaviour and asking this question proves you possess conscious incompetence...set
    • I'd let it go other than I'm both fascinated and terrified by it simultaneously too, and frankly it ain't being handled with our kids' futures at heartprophetone

In around 12 hours of time since Friday, I used Claude to build a tool to automate Instagram posts to my account https://www.instagram.com/shape_… so I can do a better job of promoting the prints I'm making. That's been the part I've not been doing.

I created post formats for square, 4:5, and 9:16 reels and can post as either a single post or carousel. The reel feature builds out mp4 videos by animating from screen-to-screen. I've got four design formats for full view of a print, detail view, a specs view showing print prices, and a final promo slide with more info. Can upload my own music to embed in the video and sync bpm with animation timing on the video.

I can queue up posts day by day in a calendar, and post time. It even integrates with Claude to help write post content if I want to use that.

Lives on my NAS, functions in the browser. Far more technical aspects than anything I've done yet because it required a Meta developer account, API keys, etc. and a ton of Terminal usage, including edit/management screens for the NAS that I've never even seen and were really confusing.

At publish time, it sends a zip file to a NAS folder, which then SFTP's to my web host, drops the zip in there temporarily, unpacks it, and the Instagram API grabs it and uses it in the post.

At most per post, I just need to upload an image and edit a description if I want. It's like two minutes of work.

There are full-blown subscription services for this stuff that cost $35+ a month. I did this in 12 hours, customized to my needs, using no tokens and just within my normal Claude account. Hell, it built all this out with Sonnet 5.5! :D

I've been building stuff with AI since spring 2024. I know several of you have as well. What I find fascinating and worth remembering is just how fast this is all moving, and how insane the quality and features are now compared to even the entirety of 2024. I'm probably even doing more than I should have manually, because I think I could have had Claude going directly into Terminal and doing everything there.

One workflow that I've really enjoyed figuring out is having Claude write tasks to a kanban board in ToDoIst, broken down by major tasks and sub-tasks. It stays connected to it and closes out tasks, and drops prompts in there that I need if I'm doing the build in VS Code.

Credit to @set if he's back on here after a convo where he told me about something related that he was building.

I got tired of finding half broken keyboards around the office and not knowing if they were actually broken or not so I built a keyboard tester, I know they already exist but they look terrible and have ads for days so I built this.

That went well so I created a whole suite of tools for testing internet speed, webcam and audio before meetings etc.

    • Sorry, Claude built this.. I just wrote a couple of prompts and deployed it.slappy

    • Your 'forward' and 'back' mousebutton test don't work - forward doesn't fire and back is captured by the brwoser, so goes back a page.Nairn

AI Is Getting Really Good at Messing With Cybercriminals

Anti-cybercrime initiatives are increasingly using AI to scam the scammers by tricking them into talking to lifelike bots that they think are real victims.

For the last two years, the Australian company Apate, named after the Greek goddess of deception, has been building a system that diverts phone scammers onto calls with AI bots that are trained to keep conversations going as long as possible without, of course, ever actually falling for the scam

    • I was thinking halfway through that it could be CGI like previous nature docs but there's no way CGI comes remotely close to this. CGI is shit, CGI is dead._niko
