I think it's worth calling it out...sure it's everyone's choice to buy headphones, but think about all those kids who probably can't afford decent standard of life but were marketed into buying $5 headphones for $300 because Dr Dre appeared in the ad.

Sorry autoflavor, I'm not ragging on you specifically, this thread is just one of many... it just feels like it's so easy to complain about something, but really hard to make something. I mean, I'd be excited as shit if I designed the beats headphones... nothing I've done has been worn/used by that many people... so until I get to that point, I try not to complain too much :)

    • look, i get it.. but i DIDNT WRITE THE ARTICLE. Just posted it. Without even making a comment

  • autoflavour0

i didnt set up a thread to rag on them. i just set up a thread to post a story about the price difference between cost and price of these headphones.

    you all need to relax.

    • a good comparison would be the iPhone production cost versus retail price, it's similarZOOP
    • One thing I noticed about iPhone production cost info is they don't mention wholesale parts prices. Just individual.sem
    • Though with that in mind, wholesale on the parts would probably be like Zoop said, same thing as this.sem

    ^^^ preach.

Hating on them is the new "cool" thing to do because they have become what "cool" people call mass marketed crap. Personally though I have been guilty in the past of other things, being superficial over headphones has not been on my list of bad judgements made.

People can argue all day over quality, but its a personal preference. Its like arguing about EQ and Compressor settings on audio, there is no set standard that everyone likes. And at the end of the day the average person listening to music likes the boost in the bass area, rather than the full freq spectrum so they can perfect a mix etc.

I can understand why people wouldn't like them, because some people who have them make out they are the best headphones out, which they are not. But not everyone knows or cares to know different, much like most won't know the difference between 16 and 24bit audio.

  • fadein110

my nephew loves his. its a brand thing - the kids aint interested in sound and globalisation

  • jfletcher0

I don't get it.... don't like it? Don't buy them. Why set up a thread to rag on them?
I mean really is everyone here that amazing audio production folks that they know all the ins and outs of the best headphones? If everyone does, man you missed a market by not making them... clearly they'd be better than Beats... meaning they'd make millions. Stop sitting on your millions people!! Go out and pave the future of music headphones! LIVE!

  • autoflavour0

jeez.. this thread seems to have hit a nerve.. i was just posting an article about the disparity between the retail value and the actual production value of these headphones.

The chrome ones look nice and I was impressed with the sound at their demo at Costco.

I would never wear the red or white ones and have a nice pair of sennheiser at home and a pair of audio technics for the studio that probably sound better but don't look as nice as the ones above.

    • that said I bet those other 2 headphones cost $5 to make as well.fooler
  • wagshaft0

I received as a gift from a client a pair of the of the beats studio headphone (in super awesome white). I certainly enjoy them and the fidelity is great. With that said, I haven't used any other $300+ headphones for an extended amount of time so there is nothing to compare the set to. Price tag certainly seems steep.

A woman I met who works for a small, high quality speaker company recommended BOSE headphones-- the company got started making headphones for pilots, and they apparently have great quality and noise-cancellation.

Beats By Dre's are definitely not shit headphones. They are miles better than general consumer headphones that were out before them.

OBVIOUSLY there are better, though they were not in general stores, you had to find pro-audio stores to get some DT100's etc, but Monster were not trying to replace pro audio monitor headphones etc.

If you don't like them, that is your choice. But you can't say they are shit when compared to the crap most products would give with their music devices prior to their release.

I personally think they are great for fun bass heavy use, I wouldn't wear them out in the street, but thats a personal choice. But I wouldn't look down on anyone else who did enjoy them, they are just headphones after all.

    • they are FUCKING SHIT compared to 99% of $300 headphones, and that's a fucking factmonospaced
    • they have colored sound, it's nowhere near "flat," and they have the audacity to charge that much... it's fuckedmonospaced
    • also, you're insane to imply that headphones before Beats were not good.monospaced
    • I have headphones that are 20 years old that sound better than the beatsmonospaced
    • They aint forcing anyone to buy them? you can live without them you know. Its a choice, if people don't like, don't buysem
    • Beat your old headphones don't have the bass of Studio Dre's for a fact. And some people like that.sem
    • Agreed: any self-respecting person who enjoys quality sound agrees that Beats suck and won't buy them.monospaced
    • Yes, some people like bass that is shit sounding. And my old headphones are still better at that than Beats.monospaced
    • And I didn't say ALL headphones before Dre's were shit, I said MOST general consumer headphones like you would get with MP3 players etcsem
    • would get with MP3 players etc...sem
    • Your "facts" are so fucking bullshit it's not even funny.monospaced
    • popcorn.gifZOOP
    • why would you buy headphones you wouldn't wear out on the street?scarabin
    • Really? please do tell me what high quality headphones you found in general high street chain stores before?sem
    • AKGs, Sonys, Sennheisers for starters... all have been making better sounding headphones for years before Beatsmonospaced
    • Jesus, even an old pair of digital JVCs has better sound.monospaced
    • And all for under $300 too.monospaced
    • With studio sound, and the ability to reproduce bass at a quality better than the Beatsmonospaced
    • scarabin, for private music use in the house.sem
    • end of the day, its all personal opinion. I don't think they are shit though, far from shit for sure.sem
    • Obviously the price is high, but thats because the demand was there. Don't hate them for profit gain lolsem
    • The price is high because they have the name attached and tons of marketing. They are still shit, but that's okay to like it.monospaced
    • Read ANY review and you'll see the consensus is that they are shit.monospaced
    • I don't hate them because they made $, only because they brainwashed people into paying that much for shit.monospaced
    • A, if you can be brainwashed into buying stuff, more fool you. B, your review "facts" don't add up to sales facts.sem
    • Apple computers are over-priced, but thats ok? They are a business and great at it. You reason for hating them is personal choice.sem
    • personal choice, and thats fine. But you can't say they give shit audio quality. Shit quality would be standard earbud headphones.sem
    • I have used MANY headphones over the years in high end studios, but BBD are FUN with bass stuff. So I enjoy them for that.sem
    • I understand you enjoy that. But they ARE shit. Read ANY quality review. It's a pure fact.monospaced
    • There are tons of headphones at the same cost that are leagues better. That's all I'm saying.monospaced
    • Yes of corse, the DT series piss all over them. But they are not as fun, they are work headphones.sem
    • Its like a PC can be "better" spec wise but not as simple and fun and inspiring as a Mac.sem
    • bwaahahaha... beats aren't inspiring, in any way, especially not in soundmonospaced
    • and how the hell are they "fun" compare to others? do they tell you jokes? c'monmonospaced
    • anyway, I don't want to argue since you clearly love your fun, shit sounding beats that get pissed on by 99% of 'phonesmonospaced
    • Most people that purchased BBD's don't care for quality anyway, they prob have low rip mp3 files.sem
    • But they like the headphones cos the bass rattles their head, its fun. And you can't hate them for enjoying it.sem
    • Pissed on by 99% of phones? more like 40% if that. But still, I do enjoy them :)sem
    • "beats aren't inspiring" you can't speak for everyone. Many producers would disagree.sem
    • Many make tracks with them, and them mix the songs after the pre-production is done cos it saves mixing low end.sem
    • hahahaha, I bet they do...monospaced
    • do you like the cars, the cars that go 'boom?' :Dmonospaced
    • also... don't take it so personally because the entire audiophile industry says they're shitmonospaced

    • have a nice weekend, I'm outmonospaced
    • *hug* we cool? good. And I don't care what audiophile people say, I care for what my own ears like :) they serve me well.sem
