Seeing some Mini M2 Pro reviews raving about it's speed improvement over the M1, some calling it a "Studio-junior."
Apple Mac Mini (2023) review: Mac Studio junior
With two processor choices — one for everyday computing, the other for conquering creative work — Apple’s littlest Mac has never been more appealing.

https://9to5mac.com/2023/01/23/m…I guess despite some of the previous comments here, I'm tempted to upgrade via trade-in my Mac Mini M1, simply because that trade-in value is going to decrease by the time an M3 is out in a year.
I've been perfectly happy with the M1, it was a great upgrade to my 2017 iMac, I've got a nice dual monitor setup at home for that computer and my work MBP, and as long as I'm not going nuts in Logic Pro, it's a great machine. Just tempted to upgrade since the M1 still has some trade in value that it won't have next year.
- The two extra thunderbolt ports are a big upgrade in my eyes. I have the last Intel Mini with the same form factor, and I'm using every port + dongles.section_014
- I just had to change some connections to use a new USB 3 external SSD, so I'm maxed out on the two.mg33
- That was to upgrade an older spinning external that was my Logic Pro working files drive. Nice improvement.mg33
- Do it ;) small price to pay for 3 more yearsmonospaced
- Myeaaaah the point with Apple tech is that you upgrade when the software > hardware and for some models that's 5+ years
No need to trade in anythinggrafician - Your last upgrade was iMac 2017 so 5 years. You shouldn't buy or trade anything new until at least 2025, the rest is FOMOgrafician

Do you use Stage Manager in MacOS Ventura?
I find it useful in iPadOS but not sure yet what to think about it on MacOS. Sometimes it's cool, sometimes it's annoying switching when I just want to overlap a finder window over Photoshop or something.
- I still use 10.14.6, the best and greatest osx before they made it all look like a giant iPhone osx.shapesalad
- Disagree. I like the latest UI since they updated it to flat design. Just makes sense. But that's a question of personal taste.NBQ00
- I’m slowing finding it helpful on iPad. Haven’t tried on macOS yetGnash

- Dang. No ideaGnash
- This is also why hdmi cables get expensive. They have little computers in them basically.monospaced
- NBQ000
- In this instance it’s the length. The cheapest Thunderbolt cable you’ll find from 3rd party low end is $20 and it’s for less than 1/3 length. Probably slow specmonospaced
- Absolutely nothing. GF worked at best buy and said cables are the most marked-up thing in the store. They cost like a dollar or two to make and sell for $10-150scarabin
- We’d buy them with her “at cost” discount and get them for practically nothingscarabin
- shapesalad0
- TLDR so M2 is basically an overclocked chip, stick to your M1sgrafician
- eh graf, like I said it's not just the CPU % but other factors, like being able to have more ram, more (gpu) cores, etc.NBQ00
- but if you already have M1 it's not really necessary to upgrade. Better wait for M3 which will be on 3nmNBQ00

A personal trainer’s Apple watch mistakenly sent out an emergency distress call which led to a police raid on a gym in Sydney.
Apple’s virtual assistant, Siri which is found on watches and iPhones, was activated on Jamie Alleyne’s watch while he was training a client.
The Muay Thai fighter and boxing trainer was sparring with his first client of the day at 7.45am on Tuesday when Siri misheard his words “1, 1-2, nice shot” as a call for help.

Maxed-out Mac Pro loses 98% of its value with Apple Trade In after costing US$52,199 three years earlier
Apple’s ruthless Trade In service has come under the spotlight after a tech journalist discovered that a Mac Pro that cost US$52,199 three years earlier was given a current trade-in value of just US$970.
- So, don't trade it/anything in.ideaist

WHOA!ideaist - That's called an idiot fee for spending 50k on a mac...shapesalad
- That program isn't geared towards real market value. But I did once get $500 on 7yo water-cooled dual G5 b/c the cooler parts were in high demand.evilpeacock
- ...anyway it irks me when tech news explodes over stuff like this. Trade-in value would never be good with a program that is mostly targeted for recycling.evilpeacock

Played around with an Ipad Pro & pencil yesterday. Yup, that's probably the gold standard for digital illustration work. Very impressed.

If trackpad pinch zoom dies in Figma, just restart the Dock.
(O+right on the icon and hit Relaunch)

I must say that I would love to get my hands on a Mac Mini.
Even if it was one from 2018 that still cost around 700€ in second-hand stores.
Not the M1 though, I need ports!

"Just tried pricing out our $52,199 Mac Pro's at the office for trade in, which you can still buy from Apple, $52,199.
What else has dropped 50x in value in 3 years.. besides crypto?"
- shapesalad0
Faster. Fastest. 20% faster. 3x faster. Faster yet. Amazing. 30% Faster. That's over twice the memory. 3x faster than the M1. 50% more than m1 max. 13x times fast than a popular pc. Faster. Fastest. etc
We've gone from thinest to fastest... ever! on a Mac.
Right... so which one runs AE well and doesn't crash every 20mins?

I've got the M1 Mac Mini and love it. It was an upgrade from a 2017 iMac.
I can get $390 in trade-in value for it. Primarily use it for Logic Pro and Lightroom, some PS work but nothing super intensive. Logic Pro performance is most important to me.
Make sense to upgrade given the trade in credit? I'd love to get a Studio but can't spend that kind of money. The Mini M2 Pro with 1TB would be about $1,100 after trade in.
- Wait for the M3s.
These new chips barely worth the upgrade.grafician - Or you can wait for the M4s. They’re gonna be much better!jmckinno
- I would only consider it if I felt like my current machine wasn’t up to the task.monospaced
- Wait for the M3s.

- Mac mini gets the pro chip too, niceNBQ00
- Finally. The “Mac” I’ve been asking for. A mini case with the power of a pro machine.monospaced
- @monospaced; premise seems sweet, eh? We've been using an M1 mac as our "family" mac; small imprint and as power as it needs to be.ideaist
- ^ Sorry, M1 Mac Mini.
*thumbsup*ideaist - So the M2 is just 10-15-20% faster than M1 - not double the speed. Cute.grafician
- Did anyone expect double? Nope.monospaced
- Anyway. The M2 has been out awhile so no surprise :)monospaced
- Define "awhile" 'cuz these laptops are the first using the M2 Pro and Max
And yes, many people expected at least 50% up in performance vs. M1sgrafician - It's not just about percentages. On M1 you could only have 64gb ram in MBPs. Now you can up to 96gb. Also HMDI 2.1, etcNBQ00
- Love that they're using CHAI music in the opening.stoplying
- The M2 chip originally was a similar boost from M1. These are just the larger iterations of Pro and Max from the same lineup. Boost is as expected.monospaced

It's possible that the M2 MacBook Pro's will be announced today:

Quick question... Is there any real reason to get the newest Apple TV over an older one (like this 2021 model https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0933B… for ~$60). I just want to put it on the bedroom TV so i can watch Apple TV+ shows in there. I think the TV in there is, like 6 years old, and i don't think i need crazy gaming power or SuperHD 16k stuff. Am I missing the something, or are the older ones perfectly fine?
- prices have really gone up!utopian
- I got the previous gen ATV 32GB at a steep discount a few months ago, with the "new" remote to replace a 2nd gen ATV. Works great!evilpeacock
- ...is also waaaay faster than the old ATV I had and supports newer things like H.265 streaming over LAN from my computer's video library.evilpeacock
- I don't think you'll get much benefit upgrading from a 2021 model to now, esp. if you still get OS updates; The biggest changes recently are the remote.evilpeacock
- cool cool. thxhardhat
- haha. which one of you buggars bought the last one!hardhat
- Wrong utopian. The price has gone down almost 50% with the newest release but I’m not surprised you can’t handle being triggered like an Apple fuckboi.monospaced
- Definitlu get the older 4k. No use buying a HD 1080 versionmonospaced
