So they've updated the macbook to have a retina display.
Is it me or is 2880x1800 far too much on a 15"/13" display? The average website is going to fill less than a 3rd of the width unless zoomed in, and surely a 12px font isn't even going to be readable?

any content not optimized will simply display as it has (is) for years
- albums0
scaling.
- biusness0
Surely it's flexible? Otherwise, Photoshop files will be a nightmare to edit.
Get out ya loupé's
- monospaced0
only apps optimized for the retina display will use it; nothing's forced into it
- so will the desktop resolution be no different?aanderton
- from previous models. *aanderton
- FFS dude. OF COURSE OSX will be retina. Use your brain.monospaced

- thats the answer siri gives toocraigatkinson
- Looks like I was right there mono. Desktop res is being scaled down.
http://www.anandtech…aanderton - exactly like i said, both regular (scaled) and optimized for the new resolution with many choicesmonospaced
- So the desktop resolution is no different from previous models... I don't see why you replied the way you did?aanderton

You will have to use a magnifying glass or surgically make your eyes larger. Your choice. That's what's great about this country. The freedom to choose.

no 17"?
- scarabin0
he said checking your mail "will be like reading the fine print"
that sounds awful
- i'm not against resolution or anything, i just think it was a shit line for a presentationscarabin

- Lol true!Hombre_Lobo

I just read the resolution will be scaled, so that 2880x1800 is going to look like 1900x1220.
"

no 17"
usb on both sides, so wires coming from both sides
only 2 usb ports
no anti glare screenseems great, the display but not much of an update really I don't think. i7 quad? 500gb...There'll be another next year.
- Not much of an update???inv
- nocraigatkinson
- Probably by far the best laptop ever made and its not much of an update???inv
- it already was the best laptop. It is no longer available at 17", has fewer useful ports and realistically the same resolution. Where's the update?craigatkinson
- show me the updatescraigatkinson
- You, my friend, dont know what you are talking about...inv
- well that's that thencraigatkinson
- that's 2 x USB3 ports too, craigBuddhaHat

Apple Stock Plunges After WWDC Keynote
http://appadvice.com/appnn/2012/…
- inv0
Hah..managed to get one ordered within 4 minutes of the applestore returning. Shut up and take my money!
- monospaced0
@utopian
Stock always plunges before/during a keynote. The reason is that for the weeks/months leading up to an Apple announcement, rumors run free and unchecked, building up unrealistic expectations. The stock often raises during this period as analysts and consumers are betting on Apple living up to said unrealistic expectations. And, as if on schedule, Apple announces updates (usually some amazing shit, as they did today), but still disappoint those rumor-mongers who were hoping for the iUnicorn. Then, also as if on schedule, Apple sells a gazillion of their updated products the first week and the stock climbs again. The process then repeats.
Take advantage of this cyclical process, like I do, and you can make money.
- Stocks plunge when shareholders & investors are disappointed with what they hear.utopian
- No NEW shiny iPhone that will sell gazillions... stocks sink!utopian
- exactlymonospaced
- meanwhile, they sell gazillions of everything elsemonospaced
- and then they go up as soon as they realize that all that means is that people want the new iphone moarismith
- and it's obviously coming... etc... and so they buy it all up again and prices keep on climbin. yepismith

@inv
show me where I'm wrong with the following
no 17"
usb on both sides, so wires coming from both sides when in use
only 2 usb / useable ports
no anti glare screen
many progs wont benefit from the new display, i7 is nothing new, I dont get your fuss, even though I'm making a fuss- The new glare screen has Decreased reflections by 70%inv
- and screen size by 12%craigatkinson
- +200% more pixels. You can probably run it in normal pixel mode..giving you more real estateinv
- they are newer i7s than in previous macbook proChief
- inv0
Simply because its a huge step ahead fromthe current gen. The screen will be like the transition from SD tvs to HD (and dont tell me that didnt matter). Also, the size seems like its defying physics. My current macbook 17 is half the size of my gfs HP laptop of similar spec. This thing will be lightyears ahead ofnthat again.
Also, how many ports are you using? Get a usb hub, i am sure you can fit one in the space that your prev laptop occupied.
- inv0
- craigatkinson0
I have a hub. I have a 17" i7 8gb. The space saved will be 5mm of height, no desk space, except for the 2" due to the smaller screen. The display at this stage makes no odds because nothing can take advantage of it. Is the CPU slower too?
I'm just saying, the 'leap' isn't actually that great, and actually without 17" and anti glare it's fairly useless to me.- your last 2 words there are the most important... 'to me'. It's a great update for the MBP for most...BuddhaHat

From Engadget:
http://www.engadget.com/2012/06/…
"Your old power adapters will not work with the new MacBook Pro and your new MacBook Pro adapter will not work with your old Macs. That's a little irritating but, hey, it's progress, folks, get with it -- or buy the $9.99 adapter that will let you use your old plugs with your new Macs."
- Money making mother fuckers!Hombre_Lobo
- adapters always change...fresnobob
- I think they misunderstand the meaning of the word progress. There is no net gain here...zarkonite

USB 3.0 - about time
HDMI - about time
Dual Thunderbolt ports - is there even devices to use a single port yet?
Magsafe 2 - Why?
Retina Display - Yes and No.. it was inevitable, but the transition period is going to be uglyAs for no DVD, yep whatever.. but what sucks is not being able to replace said drive with a second physical hard drive .. which was the best decision i ever made.
- also, if heaven forbid the flash ssd fails, your fucked. you cant just replace the drive..autoflavour
- Relax, I upgraded SSD in my Air in 10 minutes, the new Pro is likely to use the same chips.raf
- well, you can.. major ass pain thoautoflavour
- Magsafe 2 because it's thinner.Raniator
