New Single!
- mort_6
DAW: Ableton
Synth: Arturia Pigments
Drums: Samples placed in Drum Racks
Bass: U-He Repro 1
Reverb: Valhalla Vintage Verb
Compressor: Ableton Glue
Delay: Softube Tape Echoes
Speakers: Dynaudios + Sub
Plugin/Effect that surprised you: New version of Sonic Charge Synplant
Midi Controller: Push 1 but mostly keyboard and mouseI'm pretty much all in the box now and much more productive for it. The outboard / modular phase was an important learning experience and going back to software with that knowledge has opened things up so much for me. The catalyst to switch back to software was the decision to focus on finishing tracks rather than just endless exploring and jamming and it serves that well.

- Yamaha drinking the teenage engineering kool-aid, eh?ideaist
- Yeah like a jazzed up OP-Z... if only it had a little OLED screen with visuals, but I like itprophetone
- that little screen is tits tho
this is more braun than TE imodoesnotexist

- Nice got one to pair w my 202, they’re cool and getting oddly cheap now 2nd handprophetone
- cool lil boxesprophetone
- How easy is this to learn?Calderone2000
- I mean think so, I also have a 202 which is much more basic, but just a matter of messing with it to get used to its functions, operationprophetone
- If you had very little room and/or need a compact sampler packed with features this is it imo, cheap tooprophetone
- Comparable is the Digitakt, more expensive but that has more stuff going onprophetone
- autoflavour4
- just to be the elektron fuccboi I am.. gotta collect them all
am a little sad I swapped my digitone for the digikeys, if only as I can't have them all togetherautoflavour - driving me a little nuts, it arrived this morning before work so now I have to wait all day before I can plug it inautoflavour
- Niiiiice this is tempting to pair w/ my digitakt... bums me that I slept on the Elektron sale like a year ago when this was released as it $300 cheaperprophetone
- yeah this was 1000AUD second hand.. normally 1600.. so I jumped on it
hopefully it lives up to the hypeautoflavour
- just to be the elektron fuccboi I am.. gotta collect them all

- Moogerfooger plug-ins!mort_
- Mylar Melodies demoing them. Want!
https://youtu.be/7Nr…mort_ - damn, they sound so good!
I once had the ring modfuturefood - The Murf on chords!mort_
- upgraded my murf from the standard to the midi a few months back, but have been so busy haven't really had a chance to even play with it.autoflavour

I picked up a Digitone a couple of weeks ago and immediately fell for the sound. Most of my synths are analog subtractive which has a certain (wide) range of sounds. The Digitone adds a completely new dimension to my sound palette. It can be glassy and cold or dirty and warm and has tonnes of ways to build and manipulate a sound. Having owned a Digitakt, the interface and sequencer are nice and familiar. A definite keeper.
- be careful tho.. I was totally in lust.. but then I upgraded to the Digikeys and never looked back.autoflavour
- congrats tho.. they are fucking awesomeautoflavour
- this into a analog heat with a subtle level of dirt totally opens it up..autoflavour
- Must try that. Have a MK1 Analog Heat.mort_
- that said, I use the heat on most things.. even just a subtle bit of saturation just makes everything better.. especially digital things..autoflavour
- Yeah, love the heat on drums especially. Just some subtle crispness completely transforms them.mort_

- niiiiiiice 1 top 1prophetone
- I made mistake of making that video full screen on my 27" iMac, I could see his nose hair.shapesalad
- goosebumps every time I hear that track.. instant flashbacks to 6am in warehouses in 1993autoflavour
- Nostalgic for your forklift driving career days @auto?mort_
- lodef5
chill ambient piano thing I made using the Alter/Ego voice synth
- mort_3
Just getting into this series of podcasts. Rick Rubin is a such a great host. Nurturing creativity seems to be a common theme.
- lodef3
- BTW all the vocal type sounds are synthesized. the female voice and breath.lodef
- Love it. That bass line is mean as shit. :)mort_
- ya mean haha >:]lodef
- nice stuff man. I hate the word funky, but jesus this epitomises funk aesthetics to meIanbolton
- thx. its funk alright. i was trying to figure out ways to make it less funky and more dancy actually.lodef
- microkorg1
- It's cool, retro is def way to go but personally not gassed enuf to justify full $... but have an eye out for used
https://www.youtube.…prophetone - And I've been on fence with Octatrack II, as $200 cheaper than this guy, I like the OT's fader and live abilities, max twiddle factor?prophetone
- But this unit is def more user friendly and visual so a bit of a toss up for meprophetone
- Ricky gives it a thumbs up, he's posted some great vids using it in different waysprophetone
- I see more MPC Live 1 for 400USD cheaper used. Is the Live 2 way better? why such price difference?futurefood
- that retro version, tho. damn!futurefood
- @ff someone posted this a while back, mpc one better in some aspects if you don't need the additional features https://www.youtube.…kingsteven
- and the mpc one retro looks even better imo. although admittedly screen placement would seem to be more ergonomic on the iikingsteven
- Folk say screen better above the pads on the one. YEs the One has more function buttons less menu diving.microkorg
- The 2 can have a SSD inserted, wifi, speakers, more audio outs. Thats about it. intitally when it was launched i questioned speakers...microkorg
- ...but actually thats what i loved about the op-1 was you could pick it up and just play it. no cables, just fun, kinda think the 2 would be like that.microkorg
- Just ordered a Live 2. Really love the idea of doing arrangements away from the studio. Plays nice with modular too which will be handy.mort_
- It's cool, retro is def way to go but personally not gassed enuf to justify full $... but have an eye out for used

- nice! get it!!
one of the best sounding synths I've heard.
Getting a prophet 6 at some point this year.futurefood - Lovely - they share a lot of functionality. Will you go for the module or keyboard version?mort_
- Not getting along with the Peak? That thing's been on my short list forever. I love all the demos I've heard.section_014
- The Peak is great and very versatile. But the unhinged analog grit of the OB-6 has me smitten. It's mostly a tonal preference.mort_
- @mort the keyboard version. used prices here aren't that different between the twofuturefood
- section_014, also look into the Summit as well, it's often referred to as 2 Peaks but the combination results in something better than that.spl33nidoru
- and I hope you get it soon mort_ ! OB-6s sound and look dreamyspl33nidoru
- Will report back, hopefully soon!mort_

I'm putting together a DAWless setup for fun and musical exploration, and I have around 2k to spend on synths.
My initial plan was to cover my wants (70s-80s groove and pop + radiohead-ish exploration + goosebump inducing deepness and softness) with these :
Behringer Odyssey (or Moog Mother 32)
Minilogue xd (or Prologue)
Reface dx or MODX6 or OpsixBut I'm now wondering if for the same price going for a single possibly greater piece isn't a better idea, if only to fully lose myself into a single instrument.
Prophet 6 / Jupiter-X / Super 6Input and recommendations much appreciated !
- I would just say, if you do go the multi synth route, only buy one at a time and learn it before you buy the next one.mort_
- ^ this - and buy second hand, most new synths drop in resale value quickly and remain at around half their original RRPkingsteven
- i'd get a synth with an onboard sequencer that you can play over and a drum box. and an reverb/echo unit as well. but then i like layered textureshans_glib
- Thanks guys. Right, these all have sequencers and I got a drum box. Will check 2nd hand for the big ones. Hard to contain myself but agree with 1 by 1 if multi!spl33nidoru
- On the prophet tip, go for the 16 voice rev 2. I spent so much time comparing the P6, P5/10, and the Rev 2 (and my P08). They all sound the same.section_014
- ^ good to know, thanks manspl33nidoru
- The super 6 is fucking amazing.autoflavour
- Buy modular and sell your houseautoflavour
- mort_3
- Good thing my cases are full..autoflavour
- That just means you need more cases. :Pmort_
- I love Plaits for this kind of thing. Have 2 of them. But ZAPS takes it to another level. And analog oscillators too.mort_
- Not out until 2022 unfortunately.mort_
- Idk, this is kinda anti-modular.section_014
- @section_014 how so?mort_
- It's just so much shit packed into a single module. two osc, two eg's, modulation, etc. And, the CV inputs are assignable, so now I gotta think about it.section_014
- Things are a lot more intutive (for me), when modules do a single thing. Even when that single thing has lots of functionality and patch points.section_014
- Yeah I hear you! Have avoided modules like Ornament & Crime for those very reasons. For me, I think this one would be worth it.mort_
